Part # and source for Transmission cooler hardlines? '83 300D

Does anyone know where I can get (aside from a junker) the transmission cooler hardlines? Not the flexible one that actually goes into the cooler. But the steel ones that run alongside the engine.

My wifes '83 300D needs at least the one on the passenger side. It was patched by the PO wih some hose clamps and a peice of fuel line. Not sure why or how exactly it got cut.

Phil doesn't seem to be able to be able to get them.

Is a junker my only option here?

OK, so it is all working ok but you don't like the patch ?
How about getting a larger size steel line and clean up everything to where you can splice it over both the pieces you have... then silver solder it all together ? If you overlap it 2 inches over both sides it will be stronger than the original line..
I would guess that the PO cut it because they are a pain to deal with getting on and off...

Could one go to one of those fitted hose shops and clone it?

No its leaking quite badly. I figured like the oil cooler lines, you don't really want a situation where you could pump all the transmission fluid out while cruising down the road.

Hadn't thought about doing that. Although I found a local yard that will sell me one for $20. (which is a far cry from what the dealer wants for what he thinks is the right part. $75 from Germany and a 2 week wait).

What I meant to ask was if the metal you still have is in good shape ? Is it only the rubber patch that is leaking ?
If you find someone skilled they could replicate it... but I don't know if it has any special holders or whatever...
If you decide to replicate it yourself... then what you do is fill the line with pitch and let it harden before you bend it... this is how they maintain the right inside dimensions on Trumpets, etc. when bending them into fantastic shapes.. then heat to take it out.. plus solvents...
$20 ? Your wallet should have made sparks coming out of your pocket....

Well the junkyard turned out to be a bust. Nothing like jacking up 4 cars, lugging tires around to support them, crawling under them and discovering that no.. the tranny coolers from an '81 240D won't work. Or from a '79 300SD won't work.. etc.. Of course that was after being assured that the yard had an '83 300D on the lot. (which it didn't)

Looks like my quasi parts car has just officially crossed the line into 'offical' parts car. And it will donate the line to the '83. Assuming of course there weren't any major changes between the '83 and '84 in that area.

Is the leak close to the end connector or nearer the middle? A clamped section of fuel hose and automotive goop might be enough to hold it until you can get a new one. I searched salvage units and the only one that would fit was worse than mine. I ended up paying the dealer. Sometimes it just isn't worth the hassle.

Since Phil did not have one, try www.**************.com I know they have a lot of used parts also.
