The 240 and the 240/ are effectively the same, just a material change according to Bosch (someone here on the board got their panties in a wad over me not adding the "/" to the end) so you DO have the newer cross-drilled pintles. Anyway, I'd save them if I were you, maybe have me rebuild and balance them for your future use. If you need some injectors for other students to "practice" on, LMK, I have a ton of useless injectors for that.

Yes, indeed, anytime and chance you can. Made a junkyard run today myself and for the first time in the history of the known world, there we NO, NONE, ZERO, Mercedes of any sort at ANY of the yards. I think someone local is buying them up from auction. Normally most yards have 4-6 each. I'll trade injector work for good nozzles. "Will work for nozzles" franchises available!

want to rebuild my injectors
I am still a novice at servcing my 1982 300sd. I admit that I don't know as much as most of you, but at 260k miles I am interested in having my injectors rebuilt and balanced. I am assuming from these posts that I need to make sure I use German injector nozzles and balance to +/- 5bar.
Is there any other important info? How about a part number for the best nozzle? Also who is the most reliable rebuilder you have used who will assure German nozzle and correct balancing? Thanks.

Willrev, you won't get any new German nozzles anywhere, unless you're very lucky and find an old stock. The new Indian 240/ nozzles are not too bad. Like I said 1 or 2 out of 10 may be bad, but the quality seems to be improving. I didn't have a good impression of the local diesel shops, so I purchased my own tester and learned how to balance and rebuild injectors. It's really not difficult, though it may be tedious and time consuming. You can try your local diesel shop or TomJ if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself.

okay- sorry been a very busy week as I changed jobs... can you point me in the right direction or post a photo fo the one's I ought to be looking for and the one's I dont want to buy? I could get ahold of perhaps 20 injector a week with as many w123,w116 and w126 with the 616's and 617's here. Are they in 616's only? Nothing in non turbo 617's?

If the bodies say 135bar on them, that at least they're likely to be the right nozzles. Also, 300D non and 240's with 'rebuilt' injectors will stand a good chance of having the 240 nozzle too.

Back from the dead. Anyone doing this -- using 617 turbo nozzles in a 602 or 603 engine? I'm thinking of trying it out. The OP says better mpg and quieter engine. Anyone have any long term experience with this?

My comment on the older 240 nozzles is that over time; I am assuming with out perodic Diesel Purges the get restricted and even plug up.
(Ever one of what looked like the original Injector on my car had the central and cross holes plugge solid with Carbon; 198K on it.) In the FSM after a certain dat the show that the Central Hole was increaded in diameter. Could that have been to reduce the chance of them becoming plugged? Another issue might be the quality of the made in India 240 Nozzles. This leaves the German mad Monark and made in Italy Bosio Nozzles as the 2 quality choices. However, the Monark Nozzles have the same Facet on them that takes the place of the central and cross drilled holes in the 240 nozzles. But, that does not mean that the spray patterns are the same as the Bosch Nozzles with the Facted Pintels.

Just been thinking guys....
Would you be happy with French nozzles.....?? If so, Why not get the Delphi/Lucas/CAV/Rotodiesel equivalent, which would read, RDN0SD240/ BDN0SD240/ etc.. (These are used by most makers in Europe including Ford as OEM....) (Suffix denotes the Make, Bosch havent a pre-fix, And, you are assured of the correct part--As its got the Same part-number,-- Unlike some other popular types I see bandied around on various Forums--Boso's anyone!...) In my experience, the DN0SD261 nozzle works extremely well in the OM.615/6/7 engines- -Very quiet and has a greater torque at lower revs than the old 240/ --Brill on straight veggy too, and IMHO, Better than a 240/ when set 10-15 bar Lower than stock figure... (Lower opening press, Increases Rate of fuel delivery and advances Point Of Injection timing Just Slightly....) A nozzle thats an 'update' from the 265 is the DN0SD314--alledgedly made for improvements to 'Idle Quality'...Whatever That means... --I have yet to try them myself, Rather expensive--Over Double the price of 265!

I have never found an easy access source to Delphi/Lucas/CAV/Rotodiesel Nozzles. And, none of the typical parts places sell them so there is no way to compar prices.
Back around 1975 the CAV and Bryce (spelling?) Nozzles were of a better quality than the Bosch Nozzles. But, we sold Bosch when every Bosch made nozzles for what we were working on because my Boss got a better price break from Bosch and the Customer also go bit of thet Price Break. Also at they time the CAV pintel type nozzles did not have the nice shiny external finish that the Bosch Nozzles had. However, they appeared to be made of harder Steel. When I first rebuilt my Mercedes Injectors I used 7 Diesel Nozzles Italy. They have neither the drilled holes the 240s have or the Facet that the later Nozzles have. The PIntels are cut similar to Bosio Nozzles. After a year of use they started Nailing a little and I replaced them with Monark Nozzles. In all fairness at that time I had not gotten arround to re-timing my Fuel Injectin Pump. However, the Monark Nozzles ended the nailing and it was another 6 months before I did the IP re-time.

Also , i have a set of elsbett nozzles for a 617 turbo engine i thought about swapping in for veggie oil use. Elsbett sells different injectors for the 60X engine but not sure what the difference is. Was gonna try these. But if my nozzles are already good, been replaced before, I may just use them. There is 260K on the engine.
