f/s Mercedes Personal Limo Diesel

(not mine)
Thought this was an interesting and very cool ride. course it is slightly out of my price range at the moment.

if i were to ride in a limo - this would be it.

i do think it would look better had it's chrome been left alone. the black out look is pretty cool, but the chrome is a big part of my appeal to these cars.

I would question the "factory" stretch comment. I cannot see M-B basing a limo on a 123 chassis rather than a 126 and if they did you would think they'd supply the poor thing with better than a 4-cylinder diesel in the way of motive power. The rear door/window arrangement looks very odd.
Interesting concept but factory original??

Does anyone know for sure this is a model made by MB? I think I have seen others in Europe like this...don't think any were officially imported but probably brought in as grey-market cars.

long W123

These were made by Daimler Benz, in fact. Go to the CF Mirbach website and they have one for sale that is not so tarted up. I have ridden in these in Germany and Austria, and the owners were quite proud of them. The site: www.mirbach.de The site has lots of collector DB cars. Also of use: www.w123news.de The former has an English function, the latter does not.

Yes, MB built W123 limos at the factory. They were the 250 Long (123.028) 240D Long (123.125), and 300D Long (123.132).

i am sure that that coupled with the 10K 'asking' price could factor into why the folks can't seem to get rid of it.

Looking to buy the limo

Greetings all! I'm strongly considering purchasing this vehicle. I spoke with the owner today, and a couple issues were noted. The belt connecting the engine to the AC unit was removed (for better gas mileage?) seven years ago- is this something that can simply be put back on? I need my AC! Also, he mentioned that it has "irregular" oil usage; it sometimes uses oil normally, but sometimes burns through oil very quickly. He said there was nothing leaking onto the ground, and that it could be some sort of O-ring; he just monitors the oil usage and keeps on going. Is this something that is going to cause problems down the road? I don't want to have to replace the engine. Though swapping something more powerful would be nice, if possible...but costly, right? Aside from being underpowered (though manual transmission may help) the car seems to be in pretty good condition. I am going to be looking at the car fairly soon- does anyone know of a good mechanic in the bay area that could evaluate the vehicle's quality, and if it will be needing major repairs in the future? Is 10K a fair asking price; will it have collector's value? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am probably going to modify the vehicle to be run on vegetable oil as well; if anyone in the bay has experience and/or advice with this, please let me know. I can be reached at brettherman1@aol.com. Thanks very much!

A guy a few houses down from the house I grew up in had one back when this car was fairly new. I never once saw it moved from its parking spot (aprox. 10 years). It could have been the guy only needed it once and a while or there was something about the drivability that made it undesirable.

I don't think an AC compressor that hasn't run in 7 years will spring back to life. Put money aside for an R-134a compatible compressor and other bits and pieces to restore AC function.

I don't believe any LWB W123s were factory configured for the US. Any you find here are gray market imports. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

There's another one that comes on craigslist from time-to-time also in the Bay Area (San Rafael?). It's white or cream and has a desk where the jump seats should be. I can predict Ralph Nader's opinion on a car with a panel of wood waiting to cut in half the rear seat passengers.

These LWB cars are no more luxurious than a regular 240D. Just have a lot of legroom when the jump seats are folded. No additional ammenities. This car doesn't even have power windows. That's a plus to some but you don't expect to find windows cranks in a 1980s "personal limousine." Maybe that feature is reserved for corporate limousines

Does this car have jump seats? It obviously came with jump seats if there are middle row door and ceiling grab handles and ashtrays.

It's worth is a personal thing. It would have to be in concourse condition to fetch $10,000 in a quick sale IMHO.

I'll reserve comment on the acceleration abilities of 240Ds. I seem to say too much in that regard
