Exclamation Diagrams are great But I need plan english I'm not a pro. HELP

I beleave I have a vac problem, but looking at diagrams only show me where things are located. I really need someone to walk me though this thing. I will help anyone with any electrical problem they have in exchange for there expert info on vacs. I know there are a lot of postings on this subject, but my time is limited, and I hate reading things that only have a little to do with my exact problem.

Gee, you have such a way with words that I'm sure folks will be jumping out of the woodwork to help you! Things like "my time for is limited" and "I hate reading things that only have alittle to do with my exact problem" will certainly endear you to folks. Check back often....

I just have to ask. How old are you?

I consider myself fairly decent on vacuum diagnosis. Link me to the diagram of your car's system you don't understand and what you've tested already and we can go from there.

You have missed several concepts Ironhead...

One is evident if you read this forum concerning calling people names. Sometimes we call oursleves names but we frown upon others calling us names ( and meaning it ).

Jimmy just had the timerity to say what lots of us were thinking...

On your other post about selling your parts car.. you posted without saying where it was located or almost anything factual which people would need to know...

Then you say your time is so important that you can't read the stuff in the archives because it might not apply directly to your problem... even though reading that stuff is often the fastest way to find a solution.... and I suspect that is REALLY the case on a Holiday weekend like today.....at least read the Sticky at the top of the page concerning Searching....

The forum is a pool of knowledge.... not really a place to connect one to one for exchanging expertise.... that is just not practical in most instances and ignores the most important value of this type of information exchange.

For your future post you might want to do the following, I know that doing a search may not lead to the exact solution, but the wheel is usually not re-invented in these cars and the problems usually repeat themselves.

1, State the exact model and year we are considering in the title as well as the problem in detail. I sometimes look at a link that says Diesel vacuum problem only to find it is a W140 Diesel which I know absolutely nothing about. If it were listed as such in the title I woudl not waste MY time.
2, Tell us what the symptoms are and when it occures. Also give related support. IE vaccum doors do not lock, and the car will not shut off, etc. Tell us of symptoms that are related to the vacuum system, in this case.
3. Pictures are a tremendous help. We can't look at the car on the forum unless you provide pictures. In this case, they may not be necessary.
4. We may know the exact link or site that you need. But we need to know the problem and symptoms.
5. We all are short with time and don't want to waste it. If your paying $85 and hour you can demand things. At $0 and hour, on this forum, a please and thank you helps. And at times you may not get an answer on this forum. We have lives too

Dave

As leathermang aptly points out, the forum is a great pool of knowledge, and existing content is where I'll usually turn first using the forum search capabilities. Almost all common problems (and many not-so-common problems) can be handled just fine that way. If I were in a real pinch, I might just blurt it out on the forum without searching, but I haven't had to do that yet.

If I can't nail down a solution by searching, then I'll politely pose the question in a thread, and provide as much information as I can about the problem to help folks respond appropriately. Sometimes someone will just point me to the answer in the existing forum content (that I managed to not find.)

Sometime new (to the forum, at least) and useful information comes out in such a thread, adding to the pool of knowledge. All the more reason to use descriptive thread titles, making it easier for others to find those solutions in the future.

Chronological age is often not an indicator of maturity. It depends on how many years were repeated over and over, with no growth.

I agree with JimmyL. Ironhead is can't bring himself to do the work and search the archives, because his time is too valuable. He doesn't understand that everyone's time is valuable. Then, when this is pointed out, he lashes out like a little kid that didn't get his way.

This is teenage type stuff.

Although sometimes a little cumbersome, I find that knowledge is power and just reading about how systems work and owners' solutions to their problems have been very helpful to me. If I have a problem with my vehicles I try to post as much as I know about the situation so that any help forthcoming is informative. I am also the one who does the repairs, so it is my option whether or not to follow any one persons' advice and separate the wheat from the chaff. To me, this site is invaluable and I salute all those giving of their time and typing skills to helping me.
For those who don't have the time, patience, courtesy or inclination to read and discuss issues that directly affect their car, I offer the following solutions:

My time is sooo valuable that I can't afford to post my problem. Furthermore, I think you guys are pretty inconsiderate for for not responding to my non-post.

Actually I AM glad you got your problem fixed. These cars are a tremendous pleasure to drive (so I've heard ), but there is always something to fix. You just need to treat the folks whose help you are soliciting with common courtesy and respect. (By the way, I'm not trying to demand respect for myself, as I rarely have the knowledge to help anyone, it's for the ones who have so many times helped me)
It's not right to ask for help without first trying to help yourself. You also don't have to barter: "I will help anyone with any electrical problem they have in exchange for there expert info on vacs." Folks will help you because they are happy to, just try and help yourself first.
As for your above quote, sonny just grow up and play nice

Greg, Thanks for the reference to my "timerity", I was trying for "timidity" but I guess took a wrong turn.

Steve, well chosen words.

Half of the fun doing the searches and reading all of the posts is the good natured humor that takes place. Take the extra time and smell the roses. The people that helped me on this forum I consider to be my friends not smart asses. I only hope that my few replies have either helped someone or brightened up their day.
