Seatbelt idiot Buzzer..... found and unplugged

Here's the annoying device that screeches everytime you get ready to start your w123 - whining about seatbelts, or whether you are stupid enough to leave headlights on. Hell, i think it even nags you for leaving keys in the ignition.

Wanna get rid of this useless item that's got nothing to do with performance?? Just reach under the dash and unplug the little bastard with no ill effects at all......

Thumbs up know what you mean

some models may also have a wire connector underneath the driver's seat that can be unplugged to silence the offending buzzer...

Yep, that sounds like carry over from 114/115 series..... before they added headlight warning to the raaazzzzzzberry buzzzzzer.

Actually, unplugging the seat sensor makes more sense than disabling the entire mechanism. Can live with headlight and key warning...... just dont wanna get the bronx cheer when i turn the key.

If you unplug the buzzer unit completely, I think you lose the dome light too. A better approach is to open the buzzer box and rip off the little contraption that makes the buzzing nose.

That buzzer is annyoing, but none the less I am not bothered by it to the extent of disabling it. It does come in handy when you've got 1 too many things on mind and you leave the keys in the ignition. Or if you've got an armful of stuff getting out and you forgot the keys. Headlight buzzer is nice too, when the light is just right outside where you need your lights on, but you cannot really see your own lights..... then you go park. Though unplugging the seatbelt portion of the buzzer does sound smart. That is the most annoying instance of the buzzer.

What about replacing it with a new buzzer (A beeper/dinger/honker/light)? Or mabye activating something besides a buzzer, like your sound system?

I just unplugged my belt wire. Its below the front of the seat in a small clip. Don't get mad, Get gald *that the buzzer is dead!*

Quite ironic...I've been wanting to hook my seatbelt buzzer back up! The under-dash plug is still plugged in, and the other buzzers (key-in-ignition and headlights) work, fortunately...but I haven't found anything that's unplugged and that has something to plug into for the seat belt buzzer.

I just like to try and keep things original when I can.

Hey everyone,

The seatbelt light won't come on in my 82 300TD, and the buzzer won't buzz at this point either. The buzzer still works when I leave the lights on or leave the keys in there, so I know it's not the buzzer. I'm thinking that this "belt wire below the front of the seat" is my problem. I guess the PO unplugged it or maybe it came loose accidentally, but at any rate I want to fix it so it works again (annoying, yes; nonetheless I want it to be original). Can someone tell me exactly where to look for it?

Thanks in advance
Admiral A

Admiral, the female seatbelt connection comes out from under capeting at/near the driveshaft tunnel..... close to the seat slide track...... male connection from seatbelt sensor dangles on wire underneath the seat.

- this is on '79 240D

That is identical sounding to mine as well. I unplugged it two days ago. I just looked under, saw a wire comming from the seat, I pulled on it to reveal a connector. It's now unplugged. I love it already. There are SO many instances where I have my leg out of the car when I am preglowing... and I don't have my belt on. I actually do that just about every time I start up, just because I love to hear her start! I also take advantage of the preglow time to buckle my seat belt too.

Thanks DieselDog, I found it. Actually it was pretty easy to find, I was just too lazy to look before asking.

That didn't fix the problem though. The wire was still connected when I found it, and I unplugged and replugged it to be sure. The light and buzzer for seatbelt warning still doesn't work. Is there a fuse for this thing? My dad suggested that I simply run a new wire for the light from the buzzer unit, assuming the problem is the wire itself. I know the bulb is good because I tested it in the preglow light socket. Could it be the bulb socket? Any ideas?

Thanks

Lightbulb

Hey all,

After some time to think, I got an idea - maybe the sensor in the seatbelt buckle is broken or something, so the system thinks the seatbelt is always in. I don't know if I'm supposed to be able to open up that buckle unit, and I frankly don't want to mess with it because it could mean my life someday... so it looks like I leave it the way it is. As DieselDog said, it's annoying anyway.

On the 124 chassis, the connector is on the front of the driver seat, on the left side (as viewed while sitting in the seat). It's a small 2-wire connector in a metal clip. Unplug it, and the seat belt buzzer is gone forever. Takes 2 minutes, tops. You will need to "unhook" the front carpet cover that normall hides the electrical connectors.

The connector is black, and has two wires on each side. Male side has blue and brown wires, and the female side has green and green/black.
