It worked once! but since it has not, where can I find a troubleshooting flow chart, or a listing of common problems with the cruise control unit on my 300TD. Thank-you in advance.

I had to resolder mine twice. The first time I just briefly touched the tip to each joint to re-melt it. This worked for a few weeks but then stopped working again. About 2 weeks ago I resoldered it again, this time adding solder to joints that looked like they needed it. Seems to be working ok now but time will tell.

I've seen modules that didn't work even after resoldering. The only thing I know for certain that needs resoldering in MB's is the climate control modules. They are notorious for the solder cracking due to flexing of the circuit board that mounts the pushbutton switches to the "motherboard". A lousy design! Solder isn't made to flex, the lead material work hardens and cracks.

Incidentally its often the case that an actuator is bad and no amount of resoldering on the module will fix things. There is a variable resistor element in the them that fails. If you could buy that item it would be field repairable. It seems that the VDO part is sold thru chanels not available to us DIY'ers.

And at least one of the two outfits that repair these, General Development Labs, advises against resoldering the modules and say that they will not accept them for repair of they have been worked on by owners. see: http://gdl-online.com/don't.html

Their tips on checking the actuator are good: http://gdl-online.com/begin1.html#gdl

I just thought you would like to know all of the downside to opening the module yourself.
