eBay seller puts 100,000 Miles on a 300CD in 2 Days!

His first listing on 3/24 with 109K:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6330&item=4538312033&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

Then on 3/26 with 209K:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6330&item=4538979256&rd=1

Seems like he does a lot of high-speed driving...at least he reduced his asking price accordingly. He originally had it with a Buy It Now of $15000!

Seriously, though, if he doesn't even know how many miles the car has on it how is anyone to trust the rest of his description??? Like I said before, buy from a dealer on ebay and you are buying a car someone spent 5 minutes looking at!

rmmagow 03-27-2005 08:15 AM

True, but it isn't too bad looking. $3~4 K maybe.

Still isn't worth the buy it now price. Although my neighbor bought a 1985 300CD for 6,500 from a dealer with just under 200K on it, so there are people out there that will spend the money without thinking :D (when he went to sell the car a few months later he couldn't get what he wanted for it, he was going to sell it to me for 2,000)

Well, he may have just been handed the information to list or something and made an error somehow. Doesn't mean he can't be trusted. However if I were interested in buying the car I'd have to make plans to see it first (or have someone I trust check it out first) before opening the wallet. Many times the person listing the car online isn't even the seller of the car. Still, I wouldn't pay any of the asking prices for that car. Must be really sluggish with its non-turbo engine (it's a non-turbo right?).

If you trust his listing as an 82 MY, its a turbo.

If I remember correctly 82 was the first year for the turbo. It also says TURBODIESEL on the back deck lid.

My friends 1980 300D had the turbodiesel emblem on the trunk, but only because thats the way it came from the junkyard :D

mercedes 300cd on ebay

i live near by the car ..i took a drive out and checked it out... real nice car they made a confussion in listing it first but corrected it.... looks really healthy ,,, runs beautiful,,, its truly worth it..... dont make wrong ideas on someone you dont even know... the poor guy made a mistake on his listing it doesnt mean his a liar.... i think its worth it...and he will get his money for it... :o

Exactly! That's also what I said earlier. Some people on this website have become so critical of eBay sellers of old MB diesels that it even gets to their ability to reason in a rational manner! Shame!

tomm9298 03-28-2005 09:11 AM

Now that's a FAST diesel

If my math skills don't fail me, he drove that car at 2083.3333333333 mph for 2 days straight. I thought sonic booms were illegal in the US. That is somewhat faster than the speed of sound...........................
