I owned ( or it owned me) a French Simca 1000 back in 1970...

That was by far the biggest POS I have ever driven...

I owned a Simca when I was stationed in Germany in 1982-83. I believe it was a 1975 1300 with a 1500 engine in it. It was all I could afford as a private frist class. I promptly blew the engine on the Autobahn. The used car dealer / shop from which I purchased the car replaced the engine and I promptly blew it as well. You just haven't lived until you've been driving a car as the engine blows all to hell in the fast lane!

I certainly can't see buying ANYTHING that would support France!
Buying an old French car obviously doesn't support the country in question, but I still wouldn't want it.
I will only make an exception for french fries.......

last time i was in Paris there were many small cool cars running around .. wish i had time to check them out. like a lot of French things, probably more advanced then detroit junk.
remember, if the French had not helped Washington, there wouldn't have been much of a Revoluntionary War... and we'd all be driving Vauxhulls and having our afternoon tea with mummy.

I'd be pretty happy with one of these:
http://www.bugattipage.com/

I would rather have an EB110 in my garage then an SLR. What about the Royal? Hmm that thing makes my W126 look like a Kia.

Here's a cheap Piggout wagon. Dealer appears a little confused though.

There are many French cars I would love to have: the real Renault 5 Turbo (with the engine in the back), no comparison besides maybe a Lancia, the Peugeot 504 coupe and convertible, a Citroen SM, a CX gti or Pallas, some of the best looking cars ever build.

And about the rust; Holland is the country with the most old pristine Citroen's, especially the Citroen DS, in the world, It's not uncommon to rain 100 days out of the year in Holland...besides the rain those 30 year old cars are still on the road even with a similar system as the German "TUV".

But as a Mercedes owner you have to hate French cars, like every good old German does...

Nonetheless it frightens me to think the POR 15 I have applied has merely sealed the water inside. I will submerge the entire car in oil tomorrow.

In the days before they abandoned the US market, I owned three peugeots; all model 504. My wife still maintains they were the most comfortable cars we've ever owned, WHEN THEY WERE RUNNING!
Seriously, the early history of both makes run quite close to each other. Mercedes sales literature claims that the first car race ever held was powered by a Mercedes engine--wanna guess what make was the car? ( Peugeot). Peugeot sales literature claims they built the first diesel powered car; Mercedes claims the first PRODUCTION diesel car. ( I figure this means Peug had a running prototype first, but Mercedes got it to the market first.
I thought were fine cars, plagued with a terrible importer and that frustrating French attitude of superiority--it was like they were doing we poor colonials a favor by allowing us to own their cars.
