Is it just me, or is 3M #8090 spray adhesive hard to find?
I've been to various auto parts stores, and een a hardware store and I cannot find the 3M #8090 spray adhesive required to place the hoodpad on my 300D. This 3M adhesive is the only way to go from what I've heard. Do you think the MB dealer will have it?

Forget the stealer. Go to an auto paint supply. They'll have it.

I am just glad you read enough to know what to look for...
I got mine at the local small town O'Reilly's... but you can also check with " marine stores" ...just don't let the salesperson ( their first day on the job ) convince you that the other number will do just as good a job... |

This site has a Search Function ? What percentage of newby's use it ? Is that what that Sticky at the top of the page is talking about ?

The search function is too broad.
It's easier to re-ask something if its not too recent.

I actually think you are kidding....but with a straight face I will say:
Easier yes, but smarter , no....
Some of those threads are the result of dozens of people's input, and time to check stuff and come back and post updates.... If you are getting too many references be sure to limit the search to the diesel forum .... and sometimes it is best to choose someone you trust as the poster name in the advanced search.... |

I bought it at Napa. If you local one doesn't have it, they can get it, or try a better one.

TN-W124 Diesel , You either used the wrong can of 3M.. which is easy to do... the numbers are close... or you did not clean the hood correctly , or you did not use two light coats for each item or did not let it tack before you put it together...
We have no way of knowing which thing you did wrong.. but a spray on contact cement is clearly the correct glue to use for the hood pad... even if they did not specify it in the Mercedes shop manual... Which they do. |

Ditto the automotive paint store source. It took me a while to find it but that's where is was when I did. I've used it on both cars and it is still holding up great. It's one of the few contact cements (that work) that will let you pull apart and reposition the pad if you don't get it on straight the first time.

Better Napa / paint stores
Ditto what the others said. I found mine at a big Napa that also sold paint. 3 years later it is still in place.

I have a very old can of this stuff and it worked GREAT for attaching interior things in the 69 bug when I did a restore.
I also found that for an old, oil soaked hood pad, as a temporary fix you can use pieces of cardboard with zip ties running through them and some structural pieces on the hood to hold the pad up. I did this on mine becuase the front got ruined by oil cooler lines. If anyone wants pics I can take some when its light out |
