Planning manual tranny swap? Read on...

I'm posting this in hopes it will help somebody out. I found a 280TE wagon (w123) with 4-speed manual tranny for sale in my area. The car is a complete dog, with many broken windows, totally trashed interior, and most trim missing. But it IS a manual tranny and would be a perfect parts source for someone about to undertake a manual tranny swap. Or if you were really gutsy, it could make an interesting restoration project.

The car is in Sacramento, Calif., in the hands of a questionable dealer/repair shop. Even so, they told me they only want $300 for the car. I doubt it runs.

If anyone's interested, let me know and I can get more info, including pix.

I'm interested in this but am unsure if the gas engines use the same transmissions. Does anyone know about the cross compatibility of gas and diesel transmissions for 123?
