Joining the dark side...I think.
I spend at least $50 a day on fuel and I don't mind $2.00 gas prices too much but $2.47 is starting to piss me off. I have to have a truck in the driveway but could get away (I think) with a sedan for my cruising around. Maybe the guys that work for me will stop asking me to haul their crap for them.
Anyway due to my less than perfect back I need good seats if I ever have another 124 I'll have to install a Recaro. But the 210 seats are managable. Is the 4matic W210 in Diesel? What are the trouble areas to look out for? What price and mileage should I shop for? I refuse to buy a new Cdi I won't take the hit for the next lucky sob because I change cars so frequently. I can't get a GOLF cdi either since the construction monkeys have no respect for anyone that drives a volkswagon. |

Buy a nice clean 98-99 E300D and never look back. They are great cars and just have the usual MB problem areas. Ie window regulators, dash cracks, ect.
The glow plugs can get stuck in the head of a 606 if they havn't been done for awhile. Also ignore the sealed for life crap on the trans. I'd say about 80k would be a good time to change the fluid.

Basicly a metal tab that sicks out of the body. The top of the spring sits in it.
The early W210's mostly with the bigger engines diesels, V8's ect tended to break them off dumping the front suspension. What happens is they rust behind the undercoating and I guess the weld isn't so great. My friends 98 has been on salty roads since day 1 and it looks like new after 150k+ miles. I would worry more about a 96-97 then a 98-99 but I would still keep and eye on it.

Don't know what your budget is. Do you want more comfort and new stuff or is a 15-20 year old vehicle what you're looking for?
If you need something easy to get in and out of with room inside and can spend more than $10k, I'd get a w140 body E300D, mid to late 90's.

Question, is the 98-99 606 the same non-turbo, aspirated engine, as in the 95?

Four new diesel models introduced
The CLS 320 CDI, the E 400 CDI (OM629)! , the E 280 CDI 4matic and the E 320 CDI 4matic can be ordered starting summer 2005. Can it be? Will we really see this beast here? They have been torturing us by making them in Atlanta, GA and not selling them to us. We deserve better than that. |

W140's are great cars they are just expensive to maintain. I would look specificly for a 95 because the later you get a 350 the less chance it will bend it's rods. As with any W140 the evap core is a $3k job and will have to be done at least once in the cars life. We are getting an E400CDI!!! They are finally giving us that monster?! Screw the E300D buy that one , it can probably keep up with a Ferrari!
