Do 1982 300Ds have rack damper screws?

Cause I cant find it in my haynes manual.

the problem im having is that it idles rough when warm. like shakes. my mechanic said its probably the fuel or the injectors so hes having me run redline 85 through it for a while to see if it clears up. The rough idle starts after its been driving a while and while stopped will go away if I put the car in neutral. and yes I did a search and found tons of stuff thats why im asking about the rack damper screw. I want to eliminate any and all culprits!

edit: it also goes away if I give it a tiny bit of gas. When the car is accelerating its super smooth.

Yes, the '82 has a rack damper. It is at the rear of the injection pump, just forward of the oil filter housing. Looks like a bolt with a locknut. Adjusting it can do wonders for a rough idle.

is there an online guide on how to install and adjust one? maybe a diagram?

To install a new one, just loosen the lock nut and unscrew the pin. You will have to angle it a bit due to the limited clearance between the pump and oil filter housing. When you install the new pin, stop when you feel the pin make contact, then adjust from there.
Here is what the 617 engine service manual has to say about adjustment:
"Loosen the counter nut. Adjust damper at idle speed, screwing damper in until transverse engine vibrations have been remedied. Then tighten counter nut to 20-25 Nm."
My personal experience suggests that better results are obtained with the engine at operating temperature, idling in "drive." If the pin is screwed in too much, the engine will be hard to start. So screw it in just enough to minimize the vibration, then stop.

Here's a good thread that talks about some of us seasoned member's experience with the rack pin. Might help when you get to installing yours.

(This is not to be construed as me saying you should have searched first, cause I'm sure you did, just wanted to share an oldie) :)

Rack damper is the last thing to check. Do the tuning work first. If you do the rack damper first, please mail me your old rack damper.
