Helped a fellow stranded Mercedes driver today

I was going to mom and dad's to mow their yard and was headed down I-95 when I spotted a man standing beside a late 80's E class station wagon. I pulled off and he walked over to my car and said his electric system had gone out. He said ABS light came on first then windows didn't work and then engine shut down. I told him it sounded like his alternator which was probably just the brush pack and voltage regulator. I am in Rocky Mount NC - no parts houses or mechanics open today. I offered to let him leave it at my house or give him an extra brand new battery I had at home to get him to richmond, VA. My alt went out few months ago on a trip and I had to buy extra batt to get home. He politely turned me down and thought he would rent a u haul and truck and tow it home to his mechanic.

I sure wish I had an extra brush pack. I could have fixed that car right on the highway. I offered him a ride, but he said he would wait for the highway patrolman since he had called him. Nice guy. Said he loved these cars.

We should all carry an extra one. I changed mine as a preventative measure. The old one is in the trunk, with a few other spare parts.

I tried to help a woman with a 123 MB. It wasn't getting any fuel, inline filter ok but primer pump wouldn't pump any fuel. She would rather have it towed to her mechanic than have othe people wait for her. So I left and so did she.
