Looks like new E Class Mercedes is total junk - Must read

I had never heard of so many problems. I always wondered why there were so many used E class Mercedes used. Now I know. Wow. I think I will stick with my old reliable 300sd.

here's the link:

The more complicated the car, the more to go wrong. Most of the parts that the owners said failed, are not on my 300SD, so they can't fail.

But there is no excuse for MB to treat those owners so poorly.

Although I love the older MB dearly, if I was in the market for a new car, I'm ashamed to admit it would be a Lexus. Now if Lexus only made a Diesel.

Even consmer reports said not to buy a MB because of the poor reliability.

If you read the S,C class complaints, you can see why between the S,E and C class cars MB lost $1 Billion last year.

They may kill Daimler Chrysler.

I read the post in the site while they worry me they don't surprise me either. I didn't find anything on the 320CDI though. Only one thing about a 270CDI but I have no idea what that is.
I drove one today and it impressed me very much. If its a POS, then it's a very nice POS.

A Lexus LS430 with a diesel in it would be sweet. I guess if the W116 and W126 300SDs of the late 70's and early 80's are being pulled around fine with 123-125HP diesel engines, the big LS430 will be ok with a 175HP diesel engine.

I took a look at that site and saw just what I figured I would. Almost all 211 compalints are for 2003 models. 2003's were the first year of a new model, of course they are junk. 04's and 05's have just about had the bugs worked out of them and are quite a nice car. I actually got a laugh out of reading those stories, just watching them complain how much stuff costs at the dealer, well duh!

Think back to 98 and 99 ML's. They were even bigger pieces of crap! gotta love the grinding transfer cases and failed piston rings. by 2000 they wern't half bad.

One thing MB got out of the "merger" is chrysler taught them how to shortcut, I believe you all can see the results of that.

Not a chance, John.

MB called the acquisition of Chrysler a "merger". It was nothing resembling a merger. As a typical German company, they had (have) no respect for any American personnel and, once the deal was done, they canned all of the upper management at Chrysler and installed their own people.

You can never tell a German how to run his business or his company. You would be summarily dismissed. I worked for one for ten years until they couldn't stand the criticism anymore.

Designing all kinds of new gadgets that are unproven and unreliable is all of their own doing.

Huh?

Yes, any product line experiences those "horror stories" and I think they should be shared. However, for each of the bad ones I suspect there are hundreds of very satisfied owners otherwise the company would not be in business very long.

That said, I have had few problems with my 95 E300 diesel. I bought it for the engine and have really enjoyed the luxury ride with the long times between fill-ups. I also own a 91 Jeep Cherokee (185K) and continue to be satisfied with it - but I have a drawer full of service tickets to say that no car is immune from age and mileage related wear. I just fix them and roll on down the road and enjoy the fact that I don't have any monthly car payments.

its all good

despite all this, I'd still buy a new C230K (w/ a 6 speed!). They finally put the engine I want in the body I like. even though they did have an issue in some with crooked cyl 1 exhaust valve guide (oops, was I not supposed to mention that?) just toss a new head on it under warranty and its fine!

A while back I was in the Indy Shop I go at times for work and he-the owner had a 93 420?(gasser) on the rack-(After '87 I don't pay much attention to models and years-I am a pre 87 MB fan) The Car was Accelerating wildly-turns out the electronic cruise control wire harness's insulation was worn bare across 3-4 of the wires. This was like $1400 alone. Then other problems were discovered--turns out in a few short hours, this owner had a repair bill of $4300- a local Law enforcement officer. Man talk about a shock when he got this estimate and he went to a MB Dealer repair shop-add $1500 more to the Bill. Well he did not need those vacations for the next 10 years anyhow --only thing missing were those Drop Down Airline Type Oxygen Masks in the office-after that estimate this owner was in dire need of one.
