I wouldn't jump to conclusions by going to that site. Many of the complaints have been regarding the COMMAND and the w211, 2003 MY E-Class. With 2003 being the first year released in the US there are always things that can be tweaked as many othe rcars rolled out their first year. With your parents looking at a 2005. Get one with the basic essentials, such as the leather seating if desired, heated wheel and seats and other little things. With a simple but good choice of options they should be all set

I woudl be hard pressed to buy a used one......and a new one is out of my reach. loads of money to keep a black hole running after spending a lot of money to buy it is always a fear of mine.

Would definately wonder why they were getting rid of it.........particularly after hearing more and more about them.

Buy an Infiniti, Lexus, or Acura if you want a comfortable car to get you from point A-B with no problems.

If you want to have a little fun head over to the European makes! I think a lot of these problems are blown out of proportion. The W210 uses a weird electronic key and they have been around for 9 years now. Also W210's have a big Lucas sticker right on the brake boosters! But they work...

I'd still say it would be good to give it a couple of years to see what gives as far as what the techs say then proceed.

Well, they have been around for a few years, sort of, just not over here. I remember seeing a 2003 E270 CDI with 60K+ on it come in from time to time at the dealer in Bethesda.
