I still liked the 220D better that I saw today with the "SQsequential Biofuels" sticker on the back and the "my age" female behind the wheel. There are a few chicas around town with old diesel mercedes and biodiesel yummies... ...where do I sign up to share processor time with them |

I guess that is why the local Benz dealer has a driving range, hot spot, plasma tv's and fitness center. You will spend a lot of quality time and money there. I don't even think what their labor rate is. Only time I have stepped inside is to get some original door keys for my trusty old 300SD. I wish I had bought one of these in college instead of my 99 Grand AM. Only reason I will buy a new or recent model car is because my wife insists and/or I am flush with cash.
I suspect if you only take the E and S class the quality would not be quite so bad though it is not what it used to be. The C class and M class SUVs are cheap and reak of cheapness. Mercedes has a bad case of K car syndrome. Dumb of them to buy Chrysler. People want gadgets and the government wants gadgets to improve fuel consumption but as Scotty says "The more complicated the plumbing the easier to clog up the drain" Most makes have similar problems just you expect better from Mercedes and they are much more painful! |

Can't Blame Chrysler for the slide...it was well on its way before they bought Chrysler...besides Chrysler execs weren't the ones running the company.
True Doc. But buying a loser never helps! Maybe Toyota needs to buy them out. Japan is the only place where they take quality control seriously. |

FWIW, a co-worker took delivery of a new SL55 AMG, and after two-weeks, the electronics went crazy/possessed. Seats were moving on their own, engine wouldn't start; etc.
He had the car replaced with a NEW one under "lemon laws", and again the same thing happenned. He was able to workout a deal, and took posession of a new Porsche 911. This is SO SAD. :-( neil Perhaps Mercedes electronics will be known as "son of Prince of Darkness" (aka, Lucas electronics). |

I don't think there is a fundamental problem with the engineering. It is obvious with the older Mercedes that they kept the concept of K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid). The more complex you make the automobile the more you have to spend on Quality Assurance and the more things that can go wrong. Having an adaptive transmission is a great feature but a great liablity. Automatic windshield wipers, memory seats, automatic lights beg for problems. I will take the simple, classic Mercedes any day. Apparently though Mercedes must not be doing the gadgets as well as other car makers because you don't hear these complaints about Lexus, Acura, or BMW.
I believe the CDI has a vacuum boosted turbo to reduce lag. This is cool but obviously adds more complexity to what should be a simple part. Another possible problem, |

Already have needed it. Several times. And it's only got 52K on it. Complete POS. I will never buy a Korean crapmobile again.
