Custom Cup Holders for our MB's

I have already made several for some members and was wondering if others might be interested. I sent one off to a member to see if maybe we could get the color to match up even a little better if possible although the mix I have is already pretty close to the zebrano finish in most of our MB's.

I have sold them so far for $22 to a few members who have contacted me privately, and when I find the time I will start selling them on ebay for $30 but I'm not quite ready to undertake such a task since my high school senior year is coming to a close and I have priorities. Anyhow, I would still sell them to forum members for $22, so long as you've been a member here before I began listing them on ebay. Is what I'd like is for you to simply state here in a post if you'd be pretty interested.

As for the construction of them I am using zebra wood, which is zebrano, but not veneer (expensive wood I might add). These are then stained to match the wood color already in our cars though it is important to note that many people's wood is different than what it was originally mainly because of the aging so I can't guarentee that they'll match everyone's exactly. The grain matches just as it should be since I used the same stuff Stuttgart did. These have a final coat on them to give the glossy look and for protection from spills, etc. I am confident these will hold up even better than the wood already in our cars.

Here's a picture of one I made sitting in a 123. You'll notice it doesn't match this particular person's exactly in the picture but then again his wood was in pretty bad shape and the picture didn't come out as I hoped. The wood in our cars actually is suppose to be more honey colored than the dark brown most have but I tried to compensate somewhat.

If you have any questions please don't be afraid to ask here or by PM/email.

Thanks
David

I can see the german people now: "WTF?! Only the americans would be dumb enough to Drive and Drink at the same time!"

Question:

Does it set in or screw in?
I do not recall how you mounted.

I'm sorry I should have been more specific. It just sits into the middle counsel as shown. You just lift it out if you want it removed. I should also note that this thing holds just about any cup you put it's way. I always ge the huge fountain drinks from gas stations (44 or 32oz.) and they fit well. I seemed to have gotten a hole big enough to fit most cups and small enough to hold them securely. It even holds them still when I practice brake checks with unsuspecting riders. I'm still young and stupid aren't I? I know my brake pads have to hate me, but hey, labor's free!

Thanks
David

Right now I'm making looking into measurements to make some for a 107 so models that I could make for would include:
116
107
108
123
126
201
124

Let me know if there's a chasis you'd like one made for that's not included as I could go to the local junkyard to do some measurements.

Thanks
David

I suggest that people who get these or similar items bolt them into their cars..
These things become projectiles in an accident... particularly a roll over...

Those look great

Leathermang, those look great. You've got me beat timewise. I was going to make some too, but go man go. I will still make some this summer with the storage box underneath. Sorry I am slower for those who inquired on the other post.

To be honest my mom tells me I'm selling them too cheap as well. I'm not making hardly anything selling them to members here. The zebra is expensive wood and I tried to stay with better brands of stains and lacquer. Not to mention the time is takes waiting for coats to dry.

The holders are actually two pieces cut then biscuited together so it would have the cross grain that's in our cars.

I don't know if I can make one for a 210. I'll swing by the independent Benz shop here in town and do some measuring in a 210. I've heard bad things about the excuses for cup holders in those.

Thanks
David

No worse than the one in my 202. Same problem. One can only hold a 12 oz soda can and the other can hold a little larger bottle and that is that.

Aren't the 210 ones very fragile in that they break often? I don't think I've ever really seen one but from what I've read they're not of the best design.

Regarding ordering them, is what I'm doing is building them once I hear someone wants one. I'll then ship it out and notify the recipient of the shipping cost so you pay actual price.

Thanks
David

Would it be offensive if I posted a link to this thread in such places as performance, parts, or hot-rods? I won't do one in tech help since this obviously doesn't belong there. I don't want to be one of those people who floods the place but their do exist people who don't drive diesel MB's.

Thanks
David
