I will be more than glad to meet with you, so you will be able to see the truck I am trying to make a convertible out of a cd but no look so far, several problems closing the doors.

benz ute

actually i have seen in a book perhaps itis in the buyers guide, a pickup like this blue one which was i believe a factory study, and it had to have been done before computers were prolific.
my machinist buddy and i have had many discussions about how to do a mercedes pickup or ute while driving places to pick up the latest basket case car in arkansas or georga. you all have hit on some of the problems already such as structural integrity in a unibody looks, etc. i rather like the simplicity of the blue one above. i have run several searches for mercedes pickup onthe net and a few months back saw a 123 conversion in europe. it looked pretty good too.
i have concluded that a 123 wagon is a very good candidate since it has a cargo area already designed for flat loads with a furl tank under the floor. as you may note the 115 also has its tank under the floor. i don't know about the 450se but i surmise it too has the tank under the floor of the truck.
it is a project that is interesting to contemplate but i have always lacked the courage to take it on for fear of spending 25,000 to build a truck that i could only sell for 7,000 when i get tired of it, which i always seem to do.

Anyway, I pointed out the poorly manipulated image not for the obvious flaws in the execution but because of the potentially misleading post associated with the image and subsequent posts by others wanting to drop in to see the vehicle when visiting the area.

"I have one I bouhgt it like this (See picture) right now, I have it with the limo guys reinforcing the inside of the pilar doors, I want to register it as a pick-up and has to be approved by the HWY patrol, before they can issue another vin # and a title as pick-up.(it was rejected once)"

I checked the post date, which is well past April Fools Day.

Not trying to stir up anything, just making note of something.

I been having a lot of fun reading the posts from the “experts” on digital photography, but this morning I decided to stop by the shop and take some pictures of the truck work in process so I can post it here, making the comment with the shop manager he gave me a very good idea so here it goes:
I challenge any body to prove the 240 D Mercedes pick up does not exist or I don’t own it, to that effect I will make a deposit $5,000.00 five thousand dollars on a special Bank account jointly with the challenger (the challenger will deposit the same amount of money) we will agree on a meeting with a Notary Public to have everything legally recorded
After that we, the challenger, notary public and myself will go to physically inspect said truck and if there is no truck the challenger will take all the monies from said account.
But if he sees and drives the MB truck (if he likes to do so, even if it’s not register as a pick-up) I will take and keep the money from said account.
Quite simple.

So let’s put the money where the mouth is.

email me to: mb240dblue@yahoo.com to arrange for the deposit and time for inspection.

I do believe it exists....there was just a lot of interesting stuff going on in that original picture. Do you have any recent/more in depth photos? I would like to see it!

Not the only one

Am surprised by all the skeptics. Live north of Dallas and there was a lady who had a 123 converted to a pickup. Not sure if it was a TD originally. Really looked good like a Benz Ranchero.

It would be quite possible to turn a MB sedan or wagon into a pickup. It would take a lot of work to do it properly but if anyone wants to bring me a good Mercedes (not rusted out) and $20,000 I will do it.

The question is why? You could go out and buy a used diesel pickup for what it would cost to convert your old car, and you would have a better car and a better pickup.

Or put a trailer hitch on and buy a trailer. For under $1000 brand new and you would still have a better more versatile rig.

well if a storm dropped a tree limb on the rear roof of your wagon and effectily turned the car to junk its a way to save it.

I posted my remarks not to dispute the claim but to point out the image posted is not an actual car.
I have no doubt such cars exist, as I have seen FWD Eldorado to El-Camino-like conversions with Texas longhorns mounted on the hood.

In no way am I about to be baited into a $5,000 dare and if the poster is miffed about the mention of the doctored photo, then my apologies.

If there is a work-in-progress of the actual vehicle, let's see it as all of us are interested.
Whether or not it will be certified street-legal is probably secondary - at least to me.
