Keep us posted on your mileage and we'll see if it's like that on average. That is really good for 20% city driving too. When I fill up I try and always use the same station and don't top it up, then I have a good chance of getting the tank to about the same "full" level hopefully.

What do you have your tires at?

The real mileage hit for me was in the winter, because it seems to just get worse mileage when colder, and also the snow tires make quite a big difference. I was down to about 12 L/100 km for most of the winter. Nice to see it coming back up now that it's warmer and I don't have the snow tires on any more.

There are a few things this summer I am going to check to make sure everything is in tip top shape.. Going to check the timing chain, tensioner, rails, and also I think I need to replace a few hydraulic lifters because I get quite a lot of idle clatter and it sure sounds like lifters. So I'm going to check that out, and while doing that, clean the intake, etc... I'm also planning on doing the K1 spring kit for the transmission because under certain load conditions I do get a bit of a 2-3 shift flare that I don't like.

I've been using Sunoco Gold the last couple of months, and I notice the car seems to be a bit more powerful, and it also doesn't stink at all when first started up. I'm not sure if the mileage is any different, but I will find out soon enough once the winter diesel is gone. If I can get better than 15.5 km/L from the Sunoco Gold in the summer then I'll know for sure if it gets better mileage. I really like that it doesn't stink... it is definitely cleaner than the normal diesel I was buying before, and have bought so many times for the Jetta. Of course the Jetta gets amazing mileage, averaging 21 km/L over the last 5 years with some city and lots of 120 km/h highway driving. I have a longer trip coming up next week to Kingston and Ottawa, so that'll be a good mileage run, I hope.

Nowadays, I get about 9.5 L per 100 km in our 95 W124/Om606.

Thats 45% highway and rest city and shorter trips. Best milage I got was 8.4L/100km.

I guess the 2.5T are more efficient than the 3.0 L NA?

I routinely get 35mpg highway and 28 - 30 in town with my '93. In summer months I average about 400 miles/week, two-thirds highway miles and I average 32-33 mpg. By the way, this car really runs great on the highway! It just wants to take off around 70mph.

using http://www.vehicleservice.co.za/calc/fuel.html

Last week, I drove 763 km on 73 L of diesel

I got 29.5 MPG or 9.5 L / 100 km ,

now the MPG must be imperial right?

Other way around. The imperial gallon is bigger(about 15%), thus more miles can be squeezed out of it. You are getting 28 mp US gallon.

I'm actually in Burlington, so those of you in Oakville are really close by ... I took a new video today of a 0-100 km/h now that I've tweaked the ALDA and don't have the snow tires on any more. I believe the spec for this car is around 12 seconds, and I am at 12.5 with 30 psi tires. Maybe if I raised the tire pressure a bit I would get a bit better, but anyway, a heck of a lot better than before I tweaked the ALDA. I actually need to be a bit careful now to not lose traction from a standing stop because of all the beautiful power off idle. The car is so much nicer to drive. I've had it tweaked for the last 4 months actually, and as predicted, no loss in mileage, so it's not getting too much fuel. That car is just so great to drive!

That's a HUGE difference. Are you sure all you did was tweak the ALDA? You seem to have a lot more boost according to the way the engine sounds. Did you clean the boost lines as well?

Factory spec 0-100 is nearer to 13. 0-60 mph is 12 and change. Looking good.

DslBnz,

The ALDA really is the only thing I've done under the hood. I'm using Sunoco Gold Diesel, and that definitely seems to make it more powerful.. boost is right on spec at about 11 psi, I've checked everything else. Anyway, it's glad to have the car working the way it did when it was new! I checked the boost lines back when I did the ALDA, to make sure they were all clear. There was nothing in them at all, actually. I think the way it sounds it not very representative because that camera has a really (and I mean really!) crummy microphone. So I think it sounds a lot more "tinny" in the video than it really does. It definitely isn't overboosting though, the gauge that I had hooked up right at the ALDA never went above about 11 psi.

Is that what you think, that it sounds more high pitched than it should? Because it definitely sounds heavier and a lower tone than that camera makes it out to sound.

60 mph = 96.6 km/h which isn't too far off. I averaged the time twice, had 12.3 seconds one way, 13.0 the other way, so 12.65 was the average, and in the video it's about 12.5-12.6 (that was another run).. so I figured around 12.5 would be a good number to say..
