98 w210 turbo mods?

I own a 98 e300 turbo diesel with w210 chassis. I have had a chip installed, and want to increase boost pressure a bit. What do I need to know about this? When I read these posts I see only older models being discussed. What is a IP? and a ALDA? I think these are terms I should know/ Let me know so I can start in the right place

IP= Injection pump

This is what controls the fuel injection. When you time a gasser you play with the cap/rotor (older cars) When you time a diesel it is controlled by the IP.

Alda= THis adjusts the fuel input according to boost pressure/atomoshperic pressure, balh, balh, blah.

You may be able to install a boost controller. Check out my article in the DIY section. It is under OM617. Different engine but the same basic rules should still apply.

What company made the chip? How did you like it?

Also, do our cars have ALDA units?

If I remember correctly supertunning offers two stages. With the chip that gives you more power, I was told you should also be running a boost guage with that, an egt guage couldn't hurt either. Then their is the more mild chip.

Which one are you running?

Other then that unless you are ready to spend some serious money their is nothing else you can do. I think our friends in Finnland are making a 500hp 606, for $20k or whatever they charge maybe you can be the first person to have a W210 with one.

You money would be better spent putting E55 suspension and brakes on.

Nope, the W210 turbodiesels don't have an ALDA, nor do they have any sort of mechanical governer. It's all electronic.

I had an 89 Merkur XR4Ti. Basically a 89 Ford Turbocoupe. Since it was auto, the boost was limited to 10 psi. Manual cars had 15 psi. Well, not being happy, I insalled a Ric Gillis (nothing to do with Gilly the mod) Boost Control Valve. Even at 10 psi and no other mods, it was much snappier. I theorized that while the boost was going up, it would open the wastegate and bleed out some of the boost. With the Gillis Boost Control Valve, I noticed that the boost gauge would move up faster and when it hit 10 psi, it would dump but not before. Of course I was not happy till I was at 22 psi and blowing head gaskets (which I fixed by installing studs and ringing) and blowing the tranny (Originally C3 which I changed to a C4) among other mods.

With all this info, you might ask "Why doesn't he do it on his 99 E300?" Well the answer is that the wife would castrate me if I modded her car since it would never stop at one place and keep going on. Soon, her car would be a race car and the reliability would drop like a stone and we would be fixing it every now and then.

Hey Andrew, you need to buy a second W210 DT to mod, then report to us all of the results!
