New German Nozzles - Bulk Order
One of the better shops out here (the one that sold me their Bosch certified injector tester) looked into nozzles for me and has found a stock of the genuine German nozzles. They want about $50/ea for them, but will give me a 20% discount for a large order (not sure what they mean by that yet.)
Anyway...., I know it's tempting to order the $29 ones from the online sources, but the last big order I did from iportedcarparts and from Rusty both came in as the India made ones. The way I look at it is the German ones are worth XX $'s, the India ones aren't worth s**t, no matter how "good" the price seems. Those interested in some NEW German nozzles who can spend $40/or so each on them, email me and LMK. If I can get a big enough order, they will be around that price and the way to think of it is for $10 more, we get the real deal that WORKS, instead of crap that doesn't. Get what you pay for kind of thing. Also, we might be able to talk Rusty or one of the online sources into cherry picking their inventory for just the German ones? Come to think of it, that won't work since they don't stock inventory, they just have orders drop shipped from various warehouses. Oh well. Great idea! I'll buy a couple if it helps make it happen. Mine are OK, but when I had them checked/cleaned the guy told me that about 40% of new nozzles he gets from Bosch are crap and its getting worse.

The rebuilds are probably coming from India too now, that's why they have India nozzles. They "might" pick for just the German nozzles themselves though? There are no "cores" with nozzles, they are what wears and is thrown away when an injector is "rebuilt". All you get with a "rebuilt" injector is equivalent to your old injector that is cleaned and a new nozzle installed. This you can do yourself for a LOT less $'s and not have to send cores anywhere. Balancing is a good idea, but the injectors you buy for the $50-60 are not balanced, just dis-assy'd, cleaned, new (India) nozzles installed and re-assembled.

Tom, you certainly didn't overstate the importance of balancing. "New" injectors can vary in opening pressure so much that to take a random sample and simply screw them in practically begs for a problem. The shop I used checked 10 jectors, found 5 best, cleaned the nozzles and checked pattern and atomization and tested to open between 1950 and 2000 psi, all for $40, which I thought was totally fair. Seeing as you were trying to work with these s**t "new" parts, I don't blame you a bit for not wanting to continue.

So how does one balance the injectors? Is it just a matter of selecting ones that open within spec? That's not practical. At what these things cost, I could only afford to buy nozzles to rebuild the ones I got(5). And then, if they don't all pop within spec or have weird spray patterns, sending the defects back and forth until I got some that performed within spec could take forever. There has to be a better way.
Is it correct to assume that ALL German made nozzles are perfect? I may have to rebuild mine in the future, who knows.

you can take your injectors to a reputable shop that works on diesel. They can clean the end and check the QUALITY fo the spraying when it opens. If that's okay, you're almost there. Each good spraying nozzle will open at a different pressure, but if some are too high or low they can be opened up and have a different shim installed behind the spring. This may sound complicated but it is NOT. Like I said, I had 10 injectors tested, and a good group of injectors cleaned and identified for $40....and I live in CT, where things tend to be expensive , but I got lucky this time

Why can't they simply replace springs to adjust pop pressure instead of shimming the originals? Is the spring somehow an integrated part of the nozzle?

Tom, do you rebuild the injectors? If so, how much would it cost to get new nozzles installed and five injectors balanced? BTW what in the "improved Monarch nozzle" that is listed by the suppliers? Are there any nozzles that would work better with WVO? Thanks for your help.

just wondering . . .
howdy folks,
was wondering acouple of things here, 1st, what does it cost to get an injector from a steelership, an what kind do they sell? I know there rebuilds, are they any better? or same-o-same-o, junk also? I replaced the injectors in my 6.9 ferd, got'm from a IH dealer for 43 clams apiece, they seemed to be well rebuilt, good spray pattern, an all open with in spec., I didn't have to take any of them back. Just so everyone know the set I took out were well worn, dipping, leaking injectors, acouple of them, had to dig the barrels out... on the benz, the injectors & glo plugs look like there rusted in, good ol' northwestern rain thanks all. chip |
