I have a strange thing that happens with my glow plug indicator light. My light functions normally the first attempt at starting the car.
If the car does not fire, my glow plug light flashes while glowing on subsequent attempts. I know that a flashing glow plug light before the engine is running means that I have a defective 80 amps fuse, or power relay. That would mean that the electronic system is not getting current from terminal 30. EXCEPT, my glow plugs are sizzling away just like if the light were solid. The flashing light goes out, and the glow plugs continue to glow until the timer shuts them off. Why am I getting a flashing light when everything seems to be functioning normally?? |

A flashing glow plug usually means that the glow plugs arent drawing enough current(Amps). Current draw is the measure that the relay uses to decide when to turn off.

My glow plugs are new. When I turn on the key, and then turn off the key. Should the system stop glowing? Would an internal glow plug fault diagnoses inside the relay, be causing my light to flash erroneously? It is below zero here, and the car still starts. If I were not drawing enough amps I don't think I would start. It just seems like the relay is getting the wrong message from energizing the key during second attempts. If the relay should turn off after I turn the key off during glowing, I could see how the fault indicator would be confused about getting power, if the relay is still on. Does that make any sense to anyone?
