W123 240 Diff into a 126 300SD?
Hope I'm not boring people with more questions about diff swapping but...
I found a nice looking rear end on an '83 W123 that said 300D on the back but had a 240 engine. A VIN search says it's a 240D -- must be a replacement trunk lid. Anyway, the diff looks just like the one on my '81 W126 300SD. The 240 D only had 141 k before it was rudely smashed on the front and all sounds nice. Is it the same axle? I don't imagine they would size it down because of the smaller engine but stranger things have happened. |

The 240D used a 3.69/1 ratio the 1983 300SD had a 3.07/1. The engine will run much faster at 60MPH but would be much quicker from 0-60. Fuel consumption would increase as the engine would be revving too high except around town.
The diff would FIT! Possibly a input flange swap would be required.
