Are all MB diesel's equipped with block heater's? Specifically my 83 300D, if so where would the plug be located?

No, not every diesel has one. If you have one and you don't have the obvious cord hanging from the front of the car. It is possible the cord was removed and you may still have the block heater. Look for a circular plug in the engine with an electrical connection or a broken cord attached to it. On my '79 300 SD it is below the turbo charger on the passenger side. The cords take a lot of abuse.

Thanks Ill look in that area.

I don't know how far back this goes, I know it was true in '96. All MB diesels that came to the US had the block heater installed, but no cord. In '96, if you requested it, the dealer would install the cord, no charge at delivery.

If you will get underneath and look up on the passenger side of the block, about in the middle, you may see the heater in place. There is a standard cable that is very easy to put in place.

My '84 Euro 240D has a block heater in place and has never had a cord connected.

Good luck,

On almost all MB engines gas & diesel there is a plug to remove & install a block heater. On the US cars starting in 1984 the OM 601/602/603/606 engines had a block heater installed & there was a coupon good for 1 year, to install cord & in some cases insulation for cord.

OK if the heater is there but no cord, would parts shop carry it or would I have to go to MB? I dont think I need one down in LA. but every now and then we get some chilly stuff. It would be nice not to have to grind as long on those occasional frigid morning's.

Parts Shop lists one for $13.74, part no. 700 203 48 95C. I would think they are all the same for all models, but your might want to check. Did you find a heater on your car?

Have not looked yet. I can't seem to get away from work long enough to crawl under the car. We have a lot icing going on in our service territory. That stuff plays hell with electric lines. When things slow down I will check and let you know.
