300SD caught on fire
I was driving by the local college campus today and saw an 82-85 300SD that had caught on fire. It was out by the time I drove by, and I could see that the interior and trunk were badly burned. The engine compartment was fine. I would assume that the guy had a subwoofer and amplifier in the trunk that started the fire. I can't think of much else on these cars that would start them ablaze.
Pictures to come later, when I have time to go through the BS of getting the pics from my phone, to the computer, to you. |

Ouch....it might have been a smoking related incident too but it sounds like it would have taken some time to light both the cabin and trunk on fire....unless he was buying 4th of July fireworks early

Yeah, he probably ran a big ass 4 gauge wire to his amps and didn't fuse it at the battery. The insulation got pierced by bad routing of said wire and he had a red hot short. Seen it many times (used to install when I was yonger).

I would imagine it would have had to start in the trunk becuase the fuel tank seperates the cabin from the trunk and I doubt the fire would do a whole lot of "DOWN" into the trunk to get at places to burn.
That is sad...I saw a w116 300SD that had caught fire...worst smelling car I have ever seen...gross.. But I scored a tach amp |
