Anyone know how much the SL's and SLC's went for in the late 70's?

I believe my 82 was around $42K. Remember, the dollar was really in the toilet compared to the Mark in the early 80's.

When I bought my SDL new in Aug.'87 . . . .

the sticker was $50,650.00. However, I paid $43,700 plus tax. The dealer was worried that they would be stuck with the car since MB had announced that they were out of the diesel business in the US for a while. Also, I told friends and relatives that this was my retirement car. I'm still not retired! I hope that the car and I make it. The traffic in the Wash DC area is nuts and might get us both. Still a few years to retirement.

My 1984 300TD (European model) ordered w/ a host of options cost the original owner over 45,000 DM in 12/1983. I have no idea how much that was in US dollars back then.... anyone??

In 1984 I was living in Germany and you could get about 3DM per US dollar. So that TD would have been incredibly cheap at around US$15,000! I guess that's why the grey market was so strong back then.

I have all of the original sales paper work on my 1984 300D Turbo as well. Importation documentation, sales bill, window sticker, delivery inspection certificate etc. You name it I have it.

My car was sold new at Mercedes-Benz of Manhattan, NYC at a price of $32K. It spent 1 year in the state of NY, where it then relocated with its owners to San Diego CA, where it was garage kept and lovingly cared for for 18 years.

I am the 2nd owner.
