Do I hear a donor body

If the price is right and I can get it up to Sonora CA that may be the fix for my son's totaled 300 turbo. Let me know.

jc2124 04-23-2005 03:29 PM

the price

Is there a place I can go to find out what the price should be. I have no idea what the pricetag should be. Anyone out there know? Is there a place here on the site to get prices?

Sady repair refers to the huge thread where nearly everyone on the board is helping young man from Cincy get his SD running. Included several folks making the trip down from Detroit City. They (we) are getting close!!! Look at the thread and give it a thought.

The thread is called "wont start for anything! " We are getting close and hopefully Andy will be making the trip up to Detroit instead of us going down there!

Janet let's face it we are talking about a 26 year old car with the engine shot. Salvage or scrap value. Because it is a Mercedes not a Toyota or Pontiac you might get $200 to $500 from a sucker err... enthusiast, instead of $50 for scrap iron from the junk yard. Sorry to be the one to tell you the bad news but that's the way it is.

1979 Mercedes 240D For Sale

Thanks for the pricing tip. I'm going to say it is for sale for 400.00 The body is lovely and the interior is perfect. Everything works except the engine :(
Make offer. I'm in Los Angeles, near downtown, very freeway friendly.
I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

Enjoyed the "wont start for anything" thread. My deepest sympathies.

Brandon, let me know if the engine is still for sale. Is it in the Los Angeles area?
What is Sady repair?
The interior is flawless, but I will examine it today, to be sure.
Windows are manual
Silverlake is next to Downtown LA. And, there is a lovely lake called Silverlake

I believe the engine has sold. We will find out later this week whether or not the deal actually goes through.
I live in the Northwest (oregon)...

Gee I would love a 240 manual . . .

and I live in LA as well! (just about 15 minutes West of lovely Silverlake, in the Miracle Mile area).

Can anyone tell me how much an Indy would normally charge for an engine transplant?

Is it possible to fit a 300D Turbo engine in it? I seem to remember someone had actually done it. If so, how much would the modification add to the cost?

(I'm up to oil changes, egr kits, vacuum lines, valve adjustments, etc., but nowhere near engine-replacement level!)

ISmellDiesel 04-25-2005 01:27 AM

240d

JSP:

the Turbo should fit in there nicely, altough I am not really familiar what else needs to be modified in the process. All I can tell you, knowing the car we are dicussing well, that I trust that this is a good 'shell' for what you want. Call or email Janet as we are looking for a replacement car for her as soon as possibel

What is her E-mail address?

I sent her a PM earlier today, and would have sent an E-mail except that the forum software wouldn't allow it for whatever reason. As of this writing, she hasn't read the PM yet, so I'm concerned that she may not see it in time.

Thank you!

jc2124,

300SDs are great if you like a large car. The power is double that of a 240D with about the same fuel mileage. THe 300SD has more automatic features like the climate control and auto transmission which are expensive to fix if you can't repair it yourself.

$400 to $500 is right for a car with dead engine.

Boy, I'd like that color scheme but right now my folk's 240D is doing well in all respects so I can't justify the cost of swapping out the engine just to get a new colored exterior and interior. Tempting....even for my 300D !!!

I am sure you will find a nice diesel in Los Angeles. So many cars there and in San Diego etc. Try the online penny saver type ad-paper called
recyler.com (do a google search)

they are based in SoCal and people post great stuff there for free !!!

good luck!!

post pics to wet the appetite!!

The Warden 04-26-2005 01:59 PM

Not trying to sound too desperate ;) but what's the status on the car?

Thank you! :)

I wonder how much it would cost to ship it to Wisconsin  I really really want a manual, and I have a good engine :D
No rust whatsoever?

jc2124 04-26-2005 11:35 PM

Impounded

Since I last posted, it was impounded for old plates. Anyone who would like to retrieve it, can have it. I will take care of the ticket, but can't afford the impound per day. Sad story. lovey car. All takers welcome. Hate to see it become trashed. I'll find the vin, etc, and post it tomorrow.
