Thumbs up Has anyone Computer chipped their E300D?

I was reading about the options of installing a performance chip in the E300D. Apparently it will add 23 hp. Cost 490. ECM must be sent to the chip company for the modification. Does anyone have experience with it?

Yeah a few members have it. Lightman does, and a few others I don't recall.

I'm thinking of it. Why does it cost so much tho. Speedtuning costs about $275. Who are you going with?

I was looking at the powerchip modification. You have to send them your ECM to do the job. My car has 99k and is awaitng new spring perches.

Theres more to the system then a chip, trust me if an OEM could safely boost power by that much with a simple chip, they would do it. I wouldn't pay over $400 for a chip that will eventially destroy the engine.

People chipping their duramaxes cost GM alot of money when they blow their engine or tranmission, pull the mod chip and bring it in under warrenty.

It's just a bad idea.

The speedtuningUSA has you send in the ECM as well, and the cost is much less. I would doubt that a modest 210hp and 303ft-lbs of torque will destroy the engine or tranny. Besides, with a quarter million miles, the engine is broken in, reminding you of the finnish super diesels pushing 500hp on the 606 with a near 400k km.

There are two chips the modest one and a more extreme one. With the more extreme chip an EGT and boost guage are needed. However with the more modest one the computer should keep everything within the limits.

I don't know which one you are talking about. Here is the letter I got from Speedtuning:

Sure you can have the stronger version, we would suggest a sport air filter for a higher air flow. Process would be you order the chip, then we will schedule the shipping of your ECU and send you instructions on how to remove the ECU. Then you send us your ECU, we have same day turn around. So with twice overnight the whole process would only take 2 days.

Thumbs up

I'd look to see if Renntech does it also, I know they do it for the new 320CDIs.

The only site I saw it on was "Powerchip" - who has specs for the E300D in .pdf format. I guess they adjust the injection pump timing etc. What do you all think this would do to longevity and fuel economy? I'm still awaiting word on my spring perches so I'll hold off on buying a chip job until then.

Still seems less that speedtuning and after I converted what they had for power, it is less or am I missing something?
