wanted - junk oil cooler
Wanted - dead oil cooler for expirament. Stripped threads leaks etc. fine. I am getting the parts & tools to replace the fittings on my oil cooler and am thinking I might like to practice on a sacrificial one first. If this works out I will entertain offering to fix other peoples oil coolers. It just doesn't seem right to have to scrap a serviceable oil cooler (~$300) because of stripped threads.
Somebody must have one they gave up on..... |
Wish you had posted this about 8 months ago before I moved. I had split the seam on mine when replacing the lines (don't ask-it involved anger and a tool of mass destruction) but kept it around in the garage in case I ever decided to use it for something. When it came time to move, it got sacrificed in favor of trailer space constraints.

I threw mine out two weeks ago, its presence bothered me too much since the top threads were perfect, but the lower ones completely stripped off (I got a new one on ebay) New one was $270, but its shiny, silver, and flawless....:D A genuine OEM Behr. I was happy with it, since I did the project myself vs. the stealership doing it, I was easily able to afford one....

I have one that leaked. That was the reason I replaced it then my used cooler I bought had the threads stripped so that's why I bought the tap and bit. You do have the bit don't you? I think it was like 29/32"
Thanks David |
Keep looking, I'd love to have this work out as a cheap easy solution for people who don't want to assemble the time, tools, & wherewithall to drill and tap...I don't have the drill bit yet but my early efforts will be under the guidance of a sophisticated & equiipped machine shop. I rencently drilled, tapped and used a threaded insert to fix an engine hanger. Using an end mill with everything precisely lined up makes the drilling/tapping worry free.
