Mike - here is a compressor like you need:

w123 compressor
I was looking for a NEW compressor ,too.

I have noticed that both Autozone and Advanced Auto Parts now have NEW (not rebuilt) compressors for $180!!

What's up?

These compressors are nothing exotic. They're just Delco's like you find in GM cars.

I have seen something about Metric and US threads on compressors. They may have changed at some point and I don't know when.

Look closely at those low priced R4's. Some of those are look-alikes made in China.

That's could be a problem. The Autozone and Advance Auto R4s are internet only deals.

Why do you suppose that is??

And when do you think the first fully PRC-made car will land on our shores?

McRoth,

Now would be an excellent time to reverse convert. Any time a compressor fails internally, you MUST THOROUGHLY flush ALL components of the system to get rid of the debris that is left over from the compressor failure. If you do not do this, you will destroy the new compressor.

All this flushing will get the oil out of the system and allow you to go back with mineral oil and R12. R12 is going down in price. It is in the neighborhood of $15 per pound now. The price of the refrigerant will be trivial compared to the overall job cost.

Good luck,

Larry, Thanks, that's good to know. I might not have done that otherwise. Guess I need to save some pennies & get working!
