If the rear suspension is in good shape on those it should give you a good W126 base number.
Maybe I'll go and post in the tech forum and see what happens. That vehicle maintains ride height, independent of load, correct?

Yeah the SLS suspension if it is working properly should keep the ride height dead on. The car probably should be running though because if it isn't perfect it could settle, and with the car running I think it adjusts itself.

I did a quick fix last weekend to get the back of my car up (83 300sd). Went to Pepboys & got an $8.00 st of spring wedges. Lifted the back of the car about an inch and stiffened it as well. Will look at heaveir springs later.
Look forward to hear how you end up lowering your front as mine looks very high as well. Haven't mearsured it though. Yet.

saggy

the increase in ride height is normal with the new shocks. i believe it will settle down some eventually. it should not affect the drive train alignment, that is all attached to the body including the diff. it will affect the alignment slightly, increaseing the usable caster. this should not be a problem.

do you know where i can buy an adapter for compression testing the 350 engine? apparently the injectors are different from the older diesels..bigger?..i cant find a place to buy one. the dealer wants $270 to run my compression test...none of the usual suspects around here has one to beg borrow or steal. anybody know where i can buy one?

Thanks for the info. Be nice for the front end to drop a bit. But, after five months, it doesn't seem like it has any inclination.

How about this tester:

My situation with the SDL has unfortunately been a disappointment.

After putting fuel in it the ride height at the rear fenderewell is now down to 25". It remains with the lousy look of a dragging ass.

The only time that it could possibly appear to look normal is with close to zero fuel and no weight in the trunk. This would raise the height to approximately 26.5 or so. But, once 300 lb. are added to the back of the vehicle, it takes on the problematic look.

I can't imagine what it would look like with a full load of passengers.

I suppose it is time to attempt to find heavier duty springs. This needs to be done with proper specifications to ensure that the new spring has a stiffer rate than the ones to be removed. I have asked the suppliers to provide this info. We will see if they respond.

weighty matters

brian, you're carrying 300 # wo any passengers in the back? yikes!

yeah, i'm with you, find stronger springs, the rubber wedges will ruin the ride quality.. ive tried it.. it will raise it but it is quick and dirty.

Well full fuel is about 150 lb. and I have about another 150 lb. of tools and supplies in the trunk.

I've been looking over the FSM and it shows about six different springs. Definitely need to be careful on which one to buy. They don't differ by much, however they can definitely affect the ride height.

I have not driven mine yet, but after replacing all rear rubber parts, springs and shocks, the rear is much higher than the front. I am hoping it will settle down after a drive and a fillup. The rear seat is also out still.

I put HD springs in the rear and the fronts are still the old ones with all associated old suspension parts up there. I am going to rebuild the front also and hopefully the car will even out again.

Looks like a jacked up funny car in the rear right now!

You torqued the bushing bolts with the weight of the car on the suspension and the axle level, right?

After replacing the front springs, it is really high also. I have the 4 nib spacing shim on the front - I know I can bring it down quite a bit by changing it out, but that's what it had before.

Does anyone know the correct spec height on these?

It's listed in the factory service manual with a nice chart.

The height specs are listed?

I have both the paper manual and two versions of the digital manual. They have a chart telling how many nibs the spacer should have but I have never seen anything with height dimensions at the wheelwells.

If you have something like that, could you post it?

Thanks
