Calling all eBay sleuths! Help me decide whether to buy...

I'm lusting after the car in eBay auction #4546113160.

Are there any of you photo examination experts that can find something wrong with this 1993 300sd? It has a clean CarFax and matches it's VIN decoder profile perfectly.

Thanks,

Damon

3.5 liter engine prone to bending connecting rods per information gleaned from this forum. Doesn't necessarily mean it will bend a rod, but it's a weak point. Then it gets really expensive from there.

Wow it still has the original guage cluster. Most of the early ones seem to have been replaced with the digital odo's.

It looks clean I like the color combo, the price is about right.

As with any W140 make sure the evap has been done. Also the early W140's had a vibration MB could never quite fix, this car may or may not suffer from it.

Make sure you want a W140 before you buy one parts cost a bit more, and the amp's and door close assit actuators fail often. Suspension parts can be pricy and they kind of eat them.

Poor man's advice:
Buy a W123, a parts car, and build a garage to put them in, with all the money you have saved...!

As other have mentioned, this vehicle has the 3.5 litre engine that has a greater than typical chance of bending a connecting rod. In fact, it could already have a bent rod and the only telltale sign would be excessive oil consumption. The seller (dealer) can honestly claim that he knows nothing about this.

Furthermore, this vehicle is of the W140 series and you must be prepared to spend some serious money in parts to maintain it.

Unless you have just won the lottery, you can't afford to have a dealer or a qualified indy maintain it.
