Leaking Trans, from top, I think

A couple weeks ago I changed my fluid, filter & gasket. I goofed then & forgot to drain the torque converter & way overfilled it! The excess fluid poured out the top someplace, I think! I drained it & put the fluid to where it should be & thought it'd be fine. Doesn't look like it. It keeps leaking from the top someplace! If I top off the fluid it leaks like crazy til it's about half way down the dip stick, then it just leaks small drops. What could I have done?

Thanks!

Do you have the correct dipstick for your transmission?
Mine has full and low marks near the bottom of the dipstick.

How did you check the level?
Engine running, after engaging D & R then into N or D, then check within 30sec?
or
Engine off, cold and having sat for a day or 2?

My dipstick is the same. I checked it when hot in & in park, I'm pretty sure that's the way the manual said to do it, right?

Thanks,

Mike

Its leaking out the vent pipe. This is not a good thing, its got fluid where only air should be. I'd suggest not to top it off any more and see if the level will get low and hopefully the fluid will come out of where its setting before you can fill it to its normal level.

It's still leaking pretty good sometimes. Do you think I could force some air throught he filler tube to get the fluid out of the vent?

That, I don't know. Let me try and call up my trans expert tomorrow and see what he says.

Cool, Thanks!

Johnhef, any word on putting air through the dipstick tube to clear out the fluid in the vent?

Thanks!

Well, I finally drained everything completely & blew 20#'s of air through the dipstick & filled it back up tonight, but I think it's still leaking! I put a piece of cardboard under it after I test drove it & there was a small puddle of fluid on it after about 10 minutes. Could some kind of seal have gone up there? I'll look at it closer in the morning to see for sure where it's coming from, hopefully. I'm starting to think it's about time to do my 4 spd manual swap soon!
