Very nice. I wonder why those were not imported to the US.
Where is the fuel tank on your car? On the Sedans the tank is behind the rear seats. The same true for the wagon? |

hi Chuck- thanks for the comments. I think you guys didn't get the wagon as the gas-powered wagon was selling well, which is a shame.
The fuel tank is under the rear floor, you can see the filler flap is quite low-down on the side. In that side compartment the pipe leading to the tank dissapears under the floor. That compartment also has the electric aerial, jack, warning triangle and first-aid kit and handy place to store my torque wrench and a few other bits & bobs

the tank fill is on the right side in the US also. from what ive noticed, only US and some japanese made cars have the fill on the left side.

Hi I have the exact same model / year as you and its a wonderful machine. If you hit any odd things or have q's I have had mine for 5 years and am at 175k miles so a little ahead of you - just drop me a PM. One word of warning there are organised gang(s) in the UK especially London stealing W124s all models for break up and shipment of parts to the developing world where the W124 is incredibly popular due to its robustness. I have heard numerous sad stories of people waking up in the morning to find their W124 has vanished- these have also been reported from time to time in motoring press. The E300D wagon is about the most desireable and valuable W124 in the UK so take care. I have friends in south London (expensive neigbourhood) who heard the chink of chains from their bed room during the night - thought it sounded suspicious and turned over safe in the knowledge that they had the oldest and least valuable car in the street. Guess what they found in the morning - theirs was the only one nicked, new SLs CLKs E's all sitting there untouched. The gangs use low loaders and cranes so usually attack cars parked in the the street or on drives close to the street (as was my friends case). You may want to consider fitting a tracker device (£500). Sorry to sound alarmist but its a real problem especially if you park on or near the road and especially in London. Hope you have yours for many years though Keith |

Hi Keith,
thanks for the advice- I've heard those horror stories too, it said a couple of months back in Mercedes Enthusiast that one of the biggest gangs had been 'smashed'- though I'm sure that's not going to be the end of it- bloody typical when you think you've bought an old tank that's low-risk! I do want to fit a tracker as soon as I can afford one. Whereabouts in the UK are you btw?

It would be perfect if it had a manual transmission! Was that option offered on that wagon with the diesel engine?

For me it would be perfect if it had manual transmission and a proper handbrake (like the 190)
I'm pretty sure you could get manual transmission as an option (you see E250's. 200's etc with them sometimes) but I think in the E300D's they're as rare as rocking horse droppings.
