91 350SD in San Jose, CA $8500

Hey SWB fans...

I saw in a consignment lot a 91 350SD with 119K miles for $8500/BO. Looks to be in decent condition with typical local wear and tear. Paint and leather look good, wheels need major refinishing. Hard to describe the color but I'd say it's taupe. That Russian feature code website says it's impala metallic (441) over mushroom (65). VIN is WDBCB34D7MA592680.

You'll have to use the search feature of http://www.wheelsanddeals.com because I can't get a direct link to the listing.

The engine has oil dripping from the crossover pipe, vent hose, IP... you name it. Good thing MB put the head casting number is a place that stays clean. It's a -17- head. I didn't have much time so I only checked a couple of cylinders and they were perfectly round

The engine started quickly and it sat smoothly and fairly quietly at ~850 rpm. Much higher than the ~550 I set in the SDL. The SDL is definitely not as smooth and I shouldn't compare engine noise because I haven't replaced the SDL encapsulation panels. There was a pulley squeak that faded over the first couple of minutes. Then there was a growl like a bad AC compressor. The AC worked fine (in all modes) and the growl persisted whether or not the AC compressor was engaged and didn't change as I turned the steering wheel. The belt tensioner pulley was cocked just a little bit and the belt was loose. It was flopping while the engine idled.

They would have had to move an RV to let the SD onto the street so I'll return for a test drive.

Window sticker says one owner with all records. There's a windshield decal that says the next oil change is due in June 2005 at ~121K miles. The decal says ******** Burlingame http://www.********burlingame.com IIRC, this shop is next to ******** Europa where Walter Baumgartner worked on my dad's 60 300d. License plate sequence is consistent with it being first licensed in 1991.

... and guess what? It's not mine and I have no interest in the sale.
