Windshield Replacement-W126-DIY?

As most of you know I have just recently gotten my car up and running (the right way) for the first time since I bought it back in september. Now that it is road worthy, I need to get some more cosmetic (less mechanical) things done to the car before a concours that I will be attending in June. For those of you who dont know, you can read up on it here if you like.

I have searched this forum and the regular internet for windshield replacement. Some seem very technical and others seem simple.

IN short, my windshield has a very large crack in it spanning from one side all the way to the other. I can get a used good one for relativly cheap , But what I dont know is if it is possible or practical to replace it myself. Is there anyone who has done this before ? Or, would It just be easier to spend more money (that I dont have) and have someone else do it?

I think I have read somewhere that the 1985 MB 300SD does not use a gasket on the windshield, is there any truth in this? What would be required to r+r the windshield?

I recently had the windshield gasket replaced in my 1980 300sd and after watching that, would not think about doing it myself. I do not have the proper tools or knowledge to do this properly. The cost was not bad and well worth it. I think the labor was about $50 plus the part.
