Jay would you also mind posting a pic of that oil feed port? Thanks again.
|
I began my gauge panel+outlet today, went and bought wood stain, a nice piece of wood, and the right drill bits for cutting the large holes, and went at it. It looks very nice, it will feature a voltage meter on the left, a boost gauge on the right, and a 12v outlet right in the middle. :D I'll post pics once I have it installed! Should be thursday....have to wait for the finishes on it to dry and such.

That gauge cluster is gorgeous!
Bravo! I wish I had a link to this one someone did from the gasser forum. It was so gross I had to say something. |

Thanks for the compliments...but don't be blaming me when your wives/gf's complain about you starting "YET ANOTHER "PROJECT"...I will deny ALL responsibility! :)
Here's another pic of the oil pressure sending unit mounted in the pre-existing "bung" at the base of the oil filter housing. ...Perhaps I should have said fastest PASSENGER CAR...I know there are some wild TD TRUCKS out there. Good luck! J.G. |
Anyone else setup a gauge cluster of sorts?

Hey Lightman,
You might want to adjust the wastegate on your turbo. My old turbo used to whine quite loud. When i replaced it with a rebuilt one, it did not whine and smoked a lot more than it used to. A quick turn of a 10mm wrench solve that problem. |

That is a possibility, however I don't have a boost gauge, nor do I know this particular turbo's efficiency range.. Seems pretty reckless to adjust it blindly. |
As they say, slow and steady wins the race. I just gave it a few turns at a time until it operated like the old turbo.

The plug that is removed for the oil pressure sending unit; is it safe to say the plug is M12 X 1.5K since that is the size of the oil sending unit? The reason I ask is I am putting in a fs2500 bypass oil filtering system and I have to give them the size of the oil filter housing plug and the oil pan plug. So I just need the exact size of that plug.
Excellent job by the way Jay!!! |
Yup, plug size is also M12 X 1.5k. Got a website I could look up info about the chip you put in your E300TD? What kind of performance increase have you achieved?

Thanks Jay! I think the website is www.speedtuningusa.com. I am not sure if they have much there to look at. He is only 30 minutes from me so I just went over and had it done. The power gains are impressive. It smokes the tires once the turbo kicks in in first gear and it really hauls through the rest. It does smoke pretty much at full throttle.
Oliver at speed tuning said to adjust the wastegate to get more air and it will decrease the smoke. I am not sure of the hp and torque increases but maybe they are on the website or call Oliver. I was looking into others because I found out the boost pressure can be changed in the chip without adjusting the wastegate. The others are Upsolut and Rocketchip. I hear they are both excellent too. |
wow an oil bypass filter, where are you going to mount it? those are pretty big units, no?
|
I believe I will be able to snug it next to the washer bottle. I will have the height clearance. We will see about the rest. It is arriving on wed..
|
Any install pics? did this bypass unit really make a huge difference?
