Fuel filter

I cant get the air out of my fuel filter on a 1983 300sd. I keep pumping with the hand pump, but I can see a big air bubble in the filter. What should I do??

bubbles

call in lawrence welk! well im showing my age. seriously, the prime pump may be shot. if that is the case you can get going by removing your air filter top and spraying wd40 into the intake while cranking. the car will run on it. keep spraying until it will run on its own. then think about changine the prime pump. are you sure youre using it correctly? if not sure see owners manual.

good luck

I have an 83sd also and I find that the primming pump works best if I unscrew the plunger enough to get it to move easily then retighten it until I get some resistence and then I still have to pump a lot. I just ordered a new style pump just for that reason.

If the bubble you refer to is in the plastic pre-filter just prior to the lift pump, then you are looking at normal operation. There is always a bubble there.
