little confused on mileage badges

went to dealer to purchase a kickdown switch for my 84 sd. while there decided to apply for a high mileage badge as my 83 300td passed the 300k mile mark. noticed on the form provided that the badge is a 500k km. badge. or 312k miles. i was under the impression from my readings here that it was a 300k mile badge. do i have this confused.

oh, by the way. a 900+ mile trip last week from northern virginia to outer banks , north carolina, the 83 averaged a little over 32 mpg. lots of air in the tires - maybe 38 psi - and driving gently for the most part. i was suprised.

thank you.

It's 500K. That should be 310,685.6 miles, so I suppose they round up a bit.

Badges are only awarded at 250kkm, 500kkm, and 1,000,000km. I think there used to be badges for 100k, 200k, etc miles, but that was decades ago.

seems they changed it recently to:

The Levels of Achievement:
1. 250,000 kilometers / 155,000 miles
2. 500,000 kilometers / 312,000 miles
3. 750,000 kilometers / 468,000 miles
4. 1,000,000 kilometers / 625,000 miles
5. 1,000,000 miles

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I have always wondered how many of the original parts need to be on the car to count for the badges. Is it specified what can be replaced?

Interesting. I guess they must have changed it when they went to the cheap Wal Mart badges this year. Or maybe I just had it completely backwards all along...

There are no restrictions; really all you need is a valid Mercedes VIN (even a euro VIN will work) to put on the form. When I ordered my 250k and 500k badges, the dealer guy just signed the form and didn't even look at the car or the odometer.

I've got some of the new brochures at work, I'll try and scan one and post it for you all to see.

Yes...air pressure...or in my case, Nitrogen Pressure... :rolleyes2 I run 44 psi in my tires, which is maximum according to the sidewall. I drive 108 miles a day to work round trip. My first tank of fuel yielded an impressive 37 mpg on the new engine.

That is at a constant 70 mph...Bert

My 116.120 has 245,000 miles on it. I decided to go through the engine/transmission, but that's original mileage on the chassis and it still looks, smells and rides like new.

I painted the wheels the correct argent color and installed new 107 400 00 25 center caps. That was the best investment I ever made. It really made the car look great.

205/70/14's really fit nicely on these cars...Bert

It's a grille emblem denoting high mileage. You get them free from MB when you fill out the proper forms and have either the dealer or a notary sign them. Then you send the form in and start to wait and wait. By the time I get mine I will be a cadaver.

hos280 05-04-2005 11:18 PM

wow this is good news

my 94 C280 deserves the 1st badge as of a month ago.

I always thought they were for 250k miles, which is the just a little over impressive. alot of cars get 150k miles, to see 200k usually raises 1/2 of 1 eyebrow, but to see a car cross 250k, well that is just darn impressive.

150k mile badge seems a little bit like posing, but I think i will get 1 tomorrow. :D  :rolleyes2

this also gives me reason to have it detailed. 1st badge prize for the hard worker.

there is a local here who picks your car up, simonizes it, shampoos, cleans the engine (no gunk) and returns it for 125 dollarinis. look brand new. I have been waiting for a reason to do it.
