shipping an engine

Does anyone have any recommendations on the best way to ship an engine (diesel, of course!) from Kentucky to New Hampshire?

Many thanks,

Ted

It needs to be strapped to a pallet.......and then I woudl call several friegh forwarding companies...You will need a liftgate if you can't drop it off to the terminal.

Thanks - do you have any freight forwarding companies to recommend?

freight forwarder not needed for inside usa shipment. call a national trucker

consolidated freightways
estes
yellow

look in the phone book or google, trucking companies, your city.

you miht need a liftgate if the p-u and deliv points do not have a forklift.

good luck.

Ok...I should have used Freight shipper not frieght forwarder..............anyone have people to recomend and shippers to avoid?
I just remembered a bad experience with DHL.......they lost a shippment and refused to refund me full value for the shippment, avoid DHL like the plauge...

FedEx freight has treated me right in the past.

You might also explore the difference in tarrifs between a fully-enclosed crate and an open pallet. Sometimes, the added expense of the full crate is more than offset by the lower cost of shipping at a different rate class.

Roadway for long distance is one for sure, I received an engine a couple of years ago shipped by them. They usually hire a local shipper with lift gate to deliver from a Roadway depot to your door. www.Roadway.com

FedEx does a great job, but I don't think they will take over about 150 pounds. They have some LWH limitations also. Basically it has to be of a size that a lone driver with a two-wheeler can handle.

Regular FedEx is limited to 150# but FedEx Freight doesn't have the same limitation. For grins I did a mock class 85 shipment from Austin to Bangor, ME:

650# $1,347.51
1500# $2,596.82
4500# $6,096.65

I looked into shipping a motorcycle recently. Here is a link to the thread where I asked a similar question.

I got lucky and sold the bike to a location that I wanted to visit anyway. I drove and let the buy pay for the fuel.
