Another question. Will the notebook IDE slot be directly compatible with the standard IDE? If memory serves correct the notebook IDE is much smaller and will require a adaptor? correct me if I am wrong.

You'll need the 44 pin to 40 pin adapter. Take your ride on down to a Compusa and pick one up or online It's a 2.5" to 3.5" IDE adapter and should run $9.99.

Yep, I got one of those little adaptors off ebay a while back for like $2 or something.... Seagate IDE (or even SATA) standard drives would probably survive just fine so long as they were on a anti-shock mount of some sort...I've found them to be invincible....even when thrown down stairs (by accident) and then are still running in one of my pc's over 2 years later Seagate makes notebook drives too, they are also excellent.

The best notebook drive is the Hitachi 7200RPM 60GB 8MB cache notebook drive ($170). It beats the older 4200rpm drives hands down. The best SATA HDD out there is the Western Digital Raptor running 10,000RPM ($100) and a lot cheaper than SCSI. I set up a RAID 0 server awhile back running 4 raptor drives and got 80MBps file transfer rates!

For a moving application I would still go with the notebook HDD's over a high end SATA because a car will still exert excessive motion (when hitting potholes or dips in the road) no matter how much padding you put in it unless you can guild a gyroscopically controlled mount for it and that would be pretty sweet if you had the resources to do it.

Ahhh a gyroscopically controlled mount? Oh yes, I have a couple old gyros lying back in the shop right now. Perhaps I could rig something up.
Nah, I think that the notebook drive will be fine. The Toshiba unit I have in my Sony laptop has ridden in much rougher cars than the Mercedes without any errors. For now I just want to see if the 3.5 IDE drives will hold up and for how long.

Numbers? Why yes I have lots of numbers!
736283
381374561235
77361309
7657333103
0198375
and always 73461893-556831

seriously....

Ok, for boost - on THIS engine I have it set at 10.5 currently. This is with a dicey turbo. Later today when UPS gets here I will install the new turbo and up it to 13.5 ~14 (PSI! not BAR). On the previous engine I ran 15 most of the time and it did great. This had nothing to do with the previous part though, that engine went due to a faulty oil cooler line. I just want to take it easy with the fresh one here....

For EGT - Well I welded the probe POST turbo, so you must account for the heat soak of the turbo. I usually try to keep 800 degrees Fahrenheit or less when tuning the fuel system. Right now the numbers are wild because the timing is off. I'm taking it down to a shop on Thursday to get the front springs replaced and the timing adjusted with one of those handy A-B lights so we will see then...

For now it's off to adjust the valves and straighten out a few more engine wiring harnesses.
Yesterday I changed the brake lines and discovered that the RR caliper was sticking! I tried to rebuild it but it was much past that point.
Also the sway bar links were a bit loose so I ordered a couple of those as well. Also got the fluid changes done, wired the thermostatic fan switch, found some vac lines that were hanging in space and put them back in their respective homes, replaced the steering box, and straightened out some crazy looking electrical (from the alternator to the wiring block -OUI!)
