leak hoses , what are these ?

I am new at diesels ( bought my fist 1983 300d yesterday ) and have my 1st question : there is several little hoses between the injectors , and some of these leak .The manual call them "leak hoses"( funny , isn't it ?) . What are their function ? If I am going eventually to run on WVO , should I replace with a different material ? And finally , can I just pull them out and replace them without risk of air entering the system ?
Thanks in advance,

Return fuel lines - very easy to replace. The line can be purchaced right here at Fastlane.

Just pull off or cut side with blade. There should not be any contamination. Use old line as template for size of new line - replace.

I have used silicon vacuum hoses, that what I use for all my turbo cars. Silicon is softer, more flexible (=better sealing) and temp/oil resistant than any rubber hose you can come up with.
A twenty year of progress has do bring something good, other than leaking turbo oil seals
Got them of eBay - 4mm should do it on those, just zip tie around the bases of nipples and you are set.

No clamp required they just get old and eventually wear out. The line sold here on Fastlane and is the OEM. It's not expsensive. I don't have the part number but give Phil a call he can tell you how many meters you need for your application.

Do not cut the sides. Or if you do make sure you do not cut the barbed side of the injector or you can start a leak that is difficult to stop. If you cut the metal then you provide a passage for the fuel. Just be careful.
