Hot Oil Pressure Problem???

Hey, out there, I have a 83 300d Turbo. When this thing is up to opperating temperature, and at idle, the oil pressure is about .5 bar. If I am on the highway, car temp is @92C(has a 80C thermo). When I come to a stop the oil pressure is .1-.3, it does gradually come up to .7-1bar, out of gear. I have replaced the oil pump,(new) changed mains & rods, (the old ones didn't really look worn) Guage is accurate! The oil cooler is always "cold". I have driven another car in this same climate, the oil cooler has always been hot! I have taken out the oil thermostat, so the oil "could" flow freely, still no flow. I was looking at a flow diagram of the oil, can't really tell where the oil goes. My father thinks there is something wrong between the oil pump, and the oil filter houseing. I have changed the two O-rings on the filter housing lid, and cleaned out the shaft on the housing lid. I have run out of ideas. PLEASE HELP ME!!! I have been battleing this problem for 2 years. I still drive it, but is sure is annoying, and I think I could further damge the engine. I have increased the base idle to about 800rpm. But only sometimes does it acctually stay at 800, it will drop to 700-750 at times. Also sometime the engine will shake more than usual, sometimes smooth. I have also replaced engine mounts, and shocks! BTW 198,000 miles.

Question Question?

What oil are you running?

20W50 is the lightest I would ever run in Texas.

Have you replaced the oil pressure sensor?

There is no oil pressure sensor. It goes directly to gauge. I have run everything from 20w50 , 30sae, dello, everything, still not much of a change.

It sounds like the gasket between the oil filter housing to the block has failed.
Remove the oil pressure line, filter top, filter element and then housing, remove old gasket material, clean up with solvent and use 'Right Stuff' gasket sealer VERY thinly on the filter body gasket face.
OR....buy the proper gasket from your local MB parts dept'. (2 hour job.)

Try the rack damper bolt upgrade for the shaking.

Thumbs up Also Try

The small seals/o rings on your our filter housing stem. The rod that goes down inside the filter, attached to the top. Good Luck!!

tomm9298........Done that already.

dkveuro.... I sent you a PM,

for everyones benifit.....how does a bad gasket between filter housing and block effect the oil pressure. Does this problem allow oil to flow where it shouldn't. Trying to understand. Thanks!

Oh, BTW, I have changed that before, forgot!

What I really want to know, is where does the oil go when it leaves the oil pump. I have seen a flow chart, but it is undistinguishable(is that a word ) From the oilpump to the filter housing, does it take a direct line, or does it go through something else, gets redirected, takes a walk around the park .....This is driving me crazy!
