It is really standard operating procedure to describe stuff on most things according to the view of the operator sitting in normal position working the equipment... IE, looking forward....
Which means that for our engines they are turning the standard direction... which is COUNTER CLOCKWISE as looking forward from the driver's seat.
The only exceptions I know of to this direction of turning were the First Honda imported into the US and the Corvair engine....
So when saying " CW " we need to say " when looking at the engine from the front of the car ".....

I rarely look at my engine from the driver'seat. That "hood" thingy blocks my view.
my bad for not being clearer. BTW, a sure method is to look at the mechanically driven cooling fan, EXCEPT in the Corvair, which has radially symmetric blades, OK Greg?
