Do you happen to have a reliable source to support this claim?

I use 32% phosphoric acid to clean rust stains off the stucco on my house and the wife uses it diluted to clean the scum off the shower stall . Yes it is in Coke but at much diluted strength. It's the main ingredient in lime away and others. I would not use it on aluminum since it reacts to form a salt.

try this, pour about 500 ml of coke on an uncooked t-bone steak, and the meat will disappear.

because coke is soda, right? so, soda neautralizes acid. you can also use sprite or mountain dew to clean corrosion on battery cables.

It is just the phosphoric acid in the Coke that cleans off the mineral deposits. We use an industrial cleaner called Phoschem or Phosclean, I can't remember, at my plant to remove bauxite off the pay loaders. It makes the paint shine like new. Since it is an acid it will remove most mineral stains. It also has a soap ingrediant in it that cuts the oil.

The fading is in the anodizing of the aluminum trim. Polish it on a wheel and risk busting through the anodizing. Ie exposed aluminum=dull forever. However I have found mine will clean up for a couple of weeks if I clay bar and wax it.

Still looks like crap, when I repaint my car I am buying all new trim.

W140's suffer from a similer problem with the trim around there windows. Talked to the owner of a local body shop, commented on how nice the trim was on his car. I said "how did you get that trim looking so nice! It really accents the car." his response "I replaced it"
