Monovalve - bench testable?

I took the monovalve out of my '85 300D. I took it apart and cleaned it up....some corrosion and spiders, etc..the plunger operates smoothly and the diaphram appears intact....Can I test this thing on the bench without sophisticated electrical apparatus? Its easy enough to put remove and repalce the assembly...but I need to prevent replacement (including the expense associated with a repair kit) of repairable components to any extent I can.

Sure, just run 12V to the two conns. It's just a solenoid so it'll run one way or the other, reverse current the other way.

2 wires between the valve and nearly any 12V DC supply, like the battery or a battery charger. There's a solenoid that opens and closes the valve and you can easily hear and feel it moving.

Thanks guys. I made myself a nice simple two wire 12v test set with batt clamps on one end and alligator clips on the other. Crossing my fingers that it is a functional monovalve.

If it isn't, you're out a whopping $20-25 for a new solenoid with diaphragm (ebay - NOT Benzbaron or his other personalities)

12 volts applied - successful test - one less thing to troubleshoot

Symptoms?

Just wondering, what prompted you to suspect the monovalve, was it hot air blowing out of the vents with the setting on cold?

I am slowely picking through my car. I bought it a couple of monthes ago and am slowely going over it in an attempt to bring it to life. I had a lot of pieces out of the car and thaought while they were out I'd clean them up and test them. I'm replacing most of the coolant laden lines and have successfully tested the monovalve and aux. heater on the bench....who knows what won't work once I get the car back together agian..
