I bought that one and it is fine for home use. If I were working on other people's cars I would want something better. The only real fault I found with it is that the check valve is junk, probably a tire valve or equivalent quality. Also there is a spacer that can slip off of the adapter, small inconvenience, unless you lose it.

The picture on that tester shows an injector style adapter. Do 603's have different injectors maybe?

Is the compression reading less when testing in the injector hole, as opposed to glow plug. Asked before, but not sure it was definitively answered.
The readings on my wagon were low, but even, and my mechanic said that was normal when testing through injector opening. He said my reading compared to what known good engines read. It was under 300, which is why I panicked at first when he told me. He said you look more for evenness of readings. Sound copacetic?

You don't know if you can trust the numbers until you have something to compare them to. A rough calibration test by comparison.

I'm not sure about the injector hole vs glow hole comparison. It depends on the volume of the adapter, should be about the same.

stuff

yes the 603 injectors are different. the compression should be the same no matter which hole you test in assuming you have a good seal.

Ok.... this "adapter is for the older 616 617 style injectors." sent me thinking something different... I know of only one style 616,617 injector.... but the older style glow plugs had larger holes... the 603 is an entirely different engine.
I took ' older' to be an adjective meaning there were also 'newer' 617 style injectors out there... since I am making a precombustion chamber puller it struck fear in my heart that I had not identified the threads properly....

I think I have one just like that. Got it years ago. Came with two adapters and I bought a third one along the line. I have used it on my 617 with no problem. Haven't tried it yet on the new 603s. Seemed to work pretty well. (better than the one I have for gas engines!). Really, if it is off by 5% or something that, it is not a big deal as long as it is consistantly off by that. The first thing I am looking for is a difference between cylinders, then I worry about low compression.

You may want to consider a leak-down tester instead. At those prices maybe just get both.
