Motor Mounts and Tools

I'm going to be doing motor mounts and trans. mount on my friends 83 300 Turbodiesel very soon.

What if any special tools make the job as easy as possible. Like maybe universal hex bit sockets or universal sockets. Should the sockets be impact sockets? What drive size, 1/4,3/8, or 1/2? Cost for the sockets is not a great concern if they make it easier.

Hmmm

Metric hex bit sockets 6MM through 10MM should be in your tool box if you own a Mercedes.
Any life time warranty tool is OK = Craftsman or better.

Use a pick of some sort (followed by compressed air if you got) to fully clean out the caps of the cap screws holding the mounts to the frame (2 per side) - this will greatly reduce the potential for stripping the heads - a teeny little wrench (or vise grips would probably work too) will be needed to prevent the emgine shock shafts (1 per side) from turning while you disconnect them.

Helpfuy? Hope so. Happy wrenching....

PB blaster to soak those bolts beforehand. Floor jack and a 2 x 6 across the oil pan to hold the engine up - or a hoist attached to the front engine lift eye. Consider replacing oil cooler hoses now if they need it as the job is easier with the left motor mount already removed.

the two front engine mounts are held together by three bolts each. two 5mm hex on the side the one 8mm hex in the center. they're kind of pain to get to without removing the engine shocks. you might want to take off those shocks and check them out also. i only did the front engine mounts and shocks so not sure what to expect on the rear engine mounts. have fun.
