It was a private seller.

I didn't get the feeling of BS artist.. just that he was just pretty clueless about that car.

Yeah.. I didn't like seeing the shiny new lower oil cooler hose.

The old wastegate hose looked like it had rotted off on its own.. didn't look like a cut, and looked like it had been plugged for a while (crud buildup).

Now there's a thought: how many of us who ar enjoying nice powerful accelerations have surrepetiously leaking wastegate hoses?

good thing to check...and its not easy to see with the stock air cleaner assembly on it....

these don't last forever.........too much boost doesn't give you too much power either....you get excessive intake charge temps..you get exsesive boost pressure putting stress on the head gasket and pistons..and connecting rods and bearings.

I wonder how many "Head Gasket falures" are due to exxcessive boost due to this hose having failed. It only takes a small hole where you can't see it to keep the wastegate closed...

That's sort of what I meant. Being clueless didn't stop him from pulling flowery prose out of his a$$. Seems like it never does.

I think the only way I could (and have been able to tell) when my wastegate hose went bad was I heard whistling noises. The hope probably is that when you took your MB into the dealer every oil change, they would probably eventually change out that hose.

Mine cracked and let air out...I noticed that when I floored it my boost pressure shot up past 20psi at times but for the most part the overboost protection keeps it from getting much past 15psi (safe limits).

Thats probably what the overboost valve is there for...people notice their car surging on acceleration and take it into the dealer and they replace the hose. Fix

I took that pic right after I rubbed it out, it has since faded again in less than a month, so I will be painting it soon.
