Well, we've talked about it, but this guy did it: W108/OM617

Ok, so it's kind of a peice of crap, but I always thought a 108 diesel would be cool. If anyone can get him to send them a pic of the engine bay, post it here. I'd ask him now, but I'm at work and gotta run.... Cheers, -Matt-

I'd still much rather see a 450SL/560SL (forget the chassis.. R107?) diesel

So technically, it's a 1972 300SD... COOL! I would like to see pics of the engine bay too. I'll ask him, maybe someone will snatch it up, and restore the body, engine, and transmission to have a nice classic W108 diesel.
